New Burro Bike PicsAK Ken

Finally got the second half of Clare's Christmas present in the mail. The wheels came on Christmas eve, but the rest didn't show up till today.

Got it all put together with the Rohloff Speed Hub just in time for her to take a spin around the driveway when she got home.

Then she came in and did a little fine tuning on the controls.

I took it for a little spin around the driveway, and it seems REALLY stable. The bike will trackstand all by itself on those big fat tires, it seems.

Maybe we'll get a ride in with it this weekend.

I love it!!! Looks like a big brother to my little clown bike! I was wondering if it is sketchy steering-wise due to the small front wheel??

Have fun with it!!!

Humvee?AK Ken

No, but they make a two wheel drive model that would qualify as the Hummer of bikes, I'll bet. I saw pics of it on the Burro Bike website. It's a wild looking lashup, I'll tell ya! They also make a ski to replace the front tire. Might have to give that a try.

Is it lungs, or is it legs,
This question for an answer begs.
You see, I'm not sure that I have a clue,
as for me it's legs, maybe lungs for you?
Of one thing though, I am sure,
My pace has slowed as I've "matured"
I hate to admit it, yes I do,
but if you're young enough to be my child,
I probably won't keep up with you.
But that's OK, my biking's still fun,
Got to go now, got to run.
The day is starting, lots of things to get done.
Ken, and daughter, the bike looks "rad",
Looks like lots of fun to be had.
Good job!AK Ken

Ho ho, good job on the poem. But that's not my daughter, that's my wife!! There's only 2 years difference, I've just got a lot more miles on me, I guess.

Burro Bike for Burro Down ?hfly

Hey there AK,

Glad to know there is such a thing as a "Burro Bike", a seemingly-appropriately named vehicle for riding the 7,500 foot DH epic here in your other backyard. The epic starts at Burro Pass in the La Sals (11,500 feet) and ends about 29 miles later at the river (4,000 feet). This ride is usually referred to as "Burro Down".

unfortunately, we didn't start @ the top point (burro) but at a campsite (warner? i can't remember the name). it was pretty close to the entrance to hazerd (sic) county. sweet jumps in there, i loved that section. the only boring part of that was the kokopelli section, gotta love p rim.

Lots of people are starting this ride at Warner Lake (the top of Hazard County) instead of at Burro Pass. This is a good alternative in that much less climbing is involved, and in that it is far easier to fit the ride into the confines of a day. However, I've always felt that the 4 miles (and 2000 vertical feet) of downhill from Burro Pass to Warner serve as a sort of preamble or warm up for the big moves of Hazard. I'm far less tentative riding Hazard's jumps if I already have 2000 feet of DH under my belt.

Next time you're in town between July and October we'll hook up for the whole thing. Also, I've been working on routing a 6,000 foot descent off of La Sal Pass at the southern end of the mountains.

Oh, yeah, that sounds like TOO MUCH FUN!AK Ken

Gonna have to try that. Don't know about doing it on a BurroBike, as there's no rear suspension, but gotta do it for sure.

Just talked to someone at area code 435 exchange 259 a few minutes ago. We just got back from the Burro's initial 3 hour tour, and had a message on the machine from Moab. Turns out we have very similar weather today--low 30s, overcast, light winds.
