No pics of Rockville today, BUT....!Finch Platte

Pics from Hogan abound... No doubt many of you are tired of hearing me talk about "our" trail at New Hogan Lake, which burned earlier this year, so I won't bore you with the details (well, maybe a little...)

I had ridden the trail a while back, so I was used to the crispy scenery, but it was different being able to see riders- no matter where they were. Before the fire, the brush would hide them- the only clue you'd have would be the sounds of tires pinging off rocks, or curses as riders would get snagged by manzanita branches- but now, their fun/torment was in plain view ;~)

We had a nice little turnout- Aimless, Mr. Manzanita, Hard Korey, Jilm, Jm, Caleb, Black Johnny and mice elf were able to enjoy the overcast weather. There were reports that it was going to dump, but the rain was at bay throughout the ride, with only a slight drizzle showing its head for a brief bit. I did the entire ride in a short-sleeved jersey- that's Hogan for you...

Thanks to Kore, we extended the ride past the 'official' end of the trail and continued on- riding cowpaths and at times making our own trail around a large portion of the lakeside. Exploring is a

i good

thing!

It was great riding with such good people. It gives me hope for the new year...

The rain has created new little streams/waterfalls/rivers. Good thing, too, because the area really needed it.

Here, Black Johnny propels his vintage Ritchey (w/ a Softride stem to boot!) thru the raging torrent.

You should have been there- the camera doesn't do it justice. Plus, a couple of the guys were farting, so that just added to the experience, ya know?

...This is one of my best buds, Black Johnny B. He gets his name from an African American doll I found at the 98 cent store a while back. The doll was called 'Black Johnny' and all it had on was a pair of yellow shorts. We had a good laugh, and being the good natured fellow he is, he's let us call him Black Johnny ever since.

John's living in WA, and is down visiting the folks here in NorCal. I love the guy, and I love riding with him. He's one of the major reasons this trail is here at Hogan.

Gary

Gotta love that damn Softride stem!
Great picture fp!martini

love the old ride as well. Thumbies, softride and canti's. It'd only be better if he was on powergrips!

Well, maybe not the powergrips....but anyway, I need to ride there. Looks like a bit of fun to be had.

Whatyou guys were discussing about the party, now that I think about it, even though I am far up in the hills, it might be kinda cool to go down there, crash somewhere, and head on up with all y'all to Salmon falls.

In case you haven't seen it many times before, this is the trail, burned. So strange that the fire started at the beginning of the trail and ended at the end of the trail. We think it may be an X-Files episode ;0)

Nice melons!Finch Platte
Dec 30, 2001 8:11 PM
We crested a rise, or a hill- whatever, and Korey said something about these round objects down below. We checked 'em out, and they looked like round watermelons. Amy thinks they were seedless melons, since they were round.

Weird thing is,

i they tasted like chicken!

Caleb crashed right in front of me, and, as usual, I was dicking around with the camera- la ti daaaa. But I like the water spewing from the bottle.
