Costa Rica Info . . . ?(6 posts)

Costa Rica Info . . . ?DaBreeze
Dec 30, 2001 10:46 PM
Just wondering if anyone has got the 411 on intermediate-advanced singletrack riding in Costa Rica. Thinking about a winter escape down there but most guide outfits mention little about "real" riding and lead me to believe that they're mostly about dirt road, fairly tame tourist-style riding. Not that that isn't great for some, but if I spend the $ and take my own bike, it'd be nice to get a bit more bang for the buck.

Anyone? Bueller? Thanks in advance, folks!

...but I was down there in October and would be happy to answer any non-biking questions you have.

As far as biking goes, I think a LOT of the tours are like you described--tourist oriented dirt roads. There are a lot of guide services run by Americans and Canadians. If you do some research prior to going down there, you could probably hook up with a guide who is willing to show you their local stash.

Also, don't make any more hotel reservations than you have to before you leave the US. SO much of their economy is tourist driven and there are very few people who are going down there anymore. Most of the hotels have super bargain prices posted to entice travelers in.

hey;

Have a friend who has lived there for years. He surfs. Says that some guys ride but can't imagine why. One of the world's meanest and deadliest snakes, the fer da lance (spelt phonetically because I'm too lazy to go find the correct spelling)lives in them there woods. You get bit you die, happy single tracking.

Peace
