Vietnam (MA) Informational Meeting(4 posts)

Vietnam (MA) Informational MeetingNCN
Dec 31, 2001 7:15 AM
Folks may have heard of this already, but just in case... Hopefully the organizers won't mind me posting this here:

********************************************************************

Hello Everyone,

As you may have heard, the town of Milford is cracking down on illegal parking and trespassing on the trails commonly known as "Vietnam". Blackstone Valley NEMBA is actively pursuing all options for providing legal access for mountain bikes on these trails, and preserving this open space from threatened development. FYI Philip Keyes has posted an Action Alert at http://www.nemba.org summarizing the issue, along with a map showing all the various parcels of land.

Please join us for a meeting Thursday 1/3 at 6:30 PM at the American Athletic Club on Rt 16 in Milford. We will discuss our findings so far, and plan our strategy for addressing this issue. All members to the MTB community are welcome to attend, especially residents of Milford. You do not need to be a NEMBA member, but this is certainly a good reason to join :-)

A light buffet will be served, we're requesting a voluntary donation of $5 to help defray the costs*.

Please RSVP (Yes, No, or Maybe) to Mitch Steinberg at mitchell_steinberg@yahoo.com or call 508-529-9339

(We need a headcount for the food)

Thanks very much, I hope you can attend! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Anne Shepard, Blackstone Valley NEMBA

Directions to the AAC:

>From the junction of 495/85, go south on 85

Turn left onto Fortune Blvd at the first light (opposite Wendy's)

Continue past Target & the office parks to the junction with Rt 16.

Turn left on 16, after 1/4 mile you'll pass under the powerlines.

The AAC is about another 1/4 mile on the Right. (It's set back from the road).

*Part of the reason we're holding the meeting at the AAC is that it's an excellent place to park when riding these trails, access is close via the powerlines. Since we're encouraging people to park here, this meeting presents a good opportunity to build a solid relationship with the restaurant.

...how did this area come to be called "Vietnam"?

from someone who has been riding nam for many years, Is that the area was dubbed "Vietnam" because the nat. gaurd unit that was based at fort devens used to drill there frequently, and the name stuck. this may or may not be true though
Thanks - 'preciate it! (nm)DeRanger
