The ski pics from yesterday were GREAT! We showed them to our new year's eve guests last nite and they drooled on my keyboard!

Here's a pic of the midnite ski tour of the three Marys: Mary Clare, Mary Kay, and Merry Jane.

Happy new year.

When you ride, make sure it isn't only in nice conditions.Twilight Error®

A big part of a 24 hour solo is mental toughness; if you can keep going at 2am in a cold drizzle when all you want to do is find a warm and dry place to die, you can do well in the race.

Getting to that point is difficult.

I did it through winter climbing in nasty conditions - I know that if I can last 13 hours exposed on a ridge in sub freezing temps and high winds, I can make it through the night hours of the race.

Damn shame I didn't do anything to toughen my back, because thats what did me in.
Ride More, injured less, do 100 mile race solo.Red Ascent

This year, I want to ride more places, spend less time on the sidelines injured, and do a 100 mile XC race solo - probably the Shenandoah 100, which I missed last year do to (what else?) injury. Also, I

i will

make the Mt Snow gathering in 2002, having been tripped up by marital implosion in '00, and injury in '01.

Happy New Year to all!

Stop living in "limited space". Ride new areas - local and out of state. Keep a kind and patient perspective about others.

Example: Don't mix the meat & veggie pots of chili I get to supervise while 20 other people are playing in the woods cause I've been sick all week. Happy New Year! 8)
100 miler on singlespeedDrevil

I want to get in good enough shape to do a 100 mile race on a singlespeed. I don't know if I have the mettle to try it on a rigid like mondo, but we'll see as it approaches. Either the Shenandoah Mt 100 or the Leadville.

I'd rather do it on a rigid bike, than on a singlespeed...talk about severe masochism. LOL...good luck if you do it, let me know if you do SM100..I'm

i definitely

doing it this year, barring further self-inflicted injury...

I'm not sure if I'll ever be fit enough to do it on a single speed, but it would be fun on a geared bike. Do you have a link for more information on either one?

Survive cardiac surgerySeb
Jan 1, 2002 4:12 PM
I think that's a pretty good one. There's a slim chance I WON'T need the surgery, but chances are I will. Hopefully it will actually make me a better rider, since I won't have to worry as much about what could happen if I max my HR for any length of time.

If'n you're willing to devulge..... some of us have rather nice surgery support systems (off board). 8)

In all seriousness, best wishes to you. My grandma had two surgeries for mitral valve replacement (she outlived the first), and my fiancee may need the same some day - she suffered from rheumatic fever as a child.
