Jennifer Yohe, featured in my hometown newspaper this morning, has MTB Passion. She's the brewmistress at Squatters in Salt Lake City, where her Full Suspension Pale Ale was inspired by her first FS bike. You go, girl!

OK AZ...What is a Vortex?pedalAZ

A Vortex is an old hard tail design, popular in North Central Arizona in the early 1990's. It was made by a couple of Yavapai Indians in their garage. It faded in popularity after a number of Vortex riders mysteriously disappeared while hucking themselves off large slickrock drops in the Sedona area. Now the stuff of MTB mythology, spiritually inclined riders from around the world travel to Sedona in search of the sites of the Lost Drops of the Vortex. Frankly, I think the correct grammar should be the Lost Drops of the Vortices, but I'm not the source of the legend, just a spiritually underdeveloped weekend warrior in search of mild singletrack. Several years ago, it was believed in these spiritual circles that an event decribed as "harmonic convergence" would occur the the site of the Lost Drops. Many travelers arrived in Sedona and fanned out into the rocks looking for the right spot, but no one found any of the lost Vortices, just a few broken derailleur hangers with strange markings. Keeps 'em coming back, though.

Thanks for your interest.

That's the best explaination that I've heard! :-)

Assuming you ride in AZ (from your handle, and detailed knowledge of "vortices") -- do I know you? Your handle is not familiar.....

I'm kind of a newbie, here and in riding. Having seen pictures of you descending the Waterfall, I don't think I'm up to riding National Trail with you yet, but I'm working on it.

Just out of curiosity, doesn't anyone enjoy more cruise oriented rides on our abundant fire roads and jeep trails? It seems everyone is focused on conquering more brutal terrain, which certainly has its attractions, but leaves a lot of underappreciated back roads off the agenda.

I pretty much enjoy any day that I can be outside and on my bike. Fire roads, jeep trails, swooping single track, even (gasp) pavement! It's all good!

See ya' out on a ride sometime....
THAT gets me thru the rest of the day - thanks! nmmtbmon

except I believe it's "Last Drops", not Lost Drops. I couldn't find them in my beer. JIm

Either you go with my short version (p. 76) or you can listen to the New Agers blather on for YEARS about what they "are". For example.

Don't say I didn't warn you.
