| West Virginia in Spring - Weather? | BrianD Jan 30, 2002 11:04 PM | | Howdy, thinking about a 3-4 day trip to WV for some early season riding during my spring break from grad school (3rd week in March). How's the riding/weather that time of year? |
| If it is Eastern WV... | mtnpat Jan 31, 2002 5:46 AM | | ...then it will be wet muddy rocks - perfect! Could very well still be snow at higher elevations. |
| too early... | davis Jan 31, 2002 7:20 AM | | 3rd week of March is usually too early for the trails in the mountains (Canaan/Slatyfork areas). Most trails in that area need time to set-up or they could be seriously damaged. Although primarily rocks and roots, most trails have areas of thick, deep, tear-your-tire-off-the-rim kind of mud. Encountering these areas too early leads to rutting or bush-whacking, neither of which is good to the trail. If there is an early spring, the Parsons area of Tucker County may be rideable in April, but even there March is probably pushing it.
