| AZ riders - Sedona weather questions | NuMexJoe Jan 31, 2002 8:15 AM | | Having given up on winter (the present storm notwithstanding), I'm hanging up the Burton and thinking of hitting Sedona over President's Day weekend. I'm ashamed to say I never made it up there in the 6 years I lived in PHX, and I'd like to check out the rides. Looking at the weather stats from Accuweather, it appears as though I can count on ~50*F during the day, which is plenty comfy for me. Recognizing I can always bag it and not go if a storm hits at the last minute, is this a bad time of year to go? Are the trails at a much higher elevation than town? Do they dry quickly, or stay muddy for a few days? Any thoughts would be welcome, but please don't suggest PHX as an alternative. No offense, but I've no desire to go back, and Sedona is about as far as I want to drive for just a long weekend. Moab and Fruita are the same drive time (coming from Los Alamos), but Sedona seems to be calling since it's further south and I've never been before. TIA, - Joe |
| Probably cold and wet | Paul B Jan 31, 2002 9:07 AM | | Good chance you'll have to deal with wet weather, mud, small chance of standing snow. We're in the middle of a nasty cold snap right now, so my judgement might be a bit colored.
If it's dry, you can probably handle the cold. If there's snow on the caps of the red rocks, bring a camera!

| well, we got a little one last nite.... | krank Jan 31, 2002 11:26 AM | | Santa Fe 10" Sandia peak 15" Yes it has been scarce this year, My K2 is not happy |
| Pajarito only got ~7 inches... | NuMexJoe Jan 31, 2002 12:49 PM | | and the web page says they're considering opening Saturday. Yikes! Maybe on a rental, but not on my board. I'm heading up to Wolf Creek for a day trip Saturday (23" in the last 2 days) but that'll probably be it for the year. Funny, but Sandia seems to consistently be getting more snow than Santa Fe or Pajarito this year. Who woulda thunk it! Have a good weekend,
