Need traveling advice US & EuropeMCM
Jan 31, 2002 1:17 PM
Hello all!

I'll be travelling the US & Europe in April/May and would love some contacts on bike rentals and rides in the cities I'll be stopping in. I'm coming from New Zealand (originally from US) and will be travelling for work so time is limited, maybe a day or two in each city, but I HAVE to ride in each place. I'd apprecite any info i can get, here are the cities I'll be stopping in:

Maui, HI

Seattle, WA

Phoenix, AZ

Albuquerque, NM

Cleveland , OH

Washington, DC

Providence, RI

Limerick, Ireland

London, UK

Leeds, UK

Paris, France

Tuscany, Italy

I'll also be stopping in India and Thailand but am not sure which cities yet. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Wow! Man, what band do you play for? If not a band, what takes you on such a whirwind tour?

I don't live in any of those cities. I am green with envy if that counts.

The bands called "The workin' your ass of engineers".

It all started of as me going to a convention in Seattle. Then a stop to see a customer in HI was added Then Phoenix, then Abuquerque then Providence. After that it was just "Hell, get an around the world ticket and just visit everyone. It'll be cheaper" Yea right, until they get the medical bill for treating my exhaustion.

I don't have a whole lot of advice to give about anywhere except Phoenix (which I'll refrain from because there are a lot of locals here who would be more help) and Tuscany.

My only advice for Tuscany is to do all of your research before you get there. I spent two weeks there in '93 and I wasn't able to find any trail information. The resort I stayed at had bikes to rent and I rode pretty much every back road between Florence and Pisa, but I hardly found any singletrack (of course the roads were BEAUTIFUL so it wasn't that big a deal). You should be able to find some good information with a few web searches.

Good luck and have fun!!!
Yeah, wow, Leeds. Awesome.Ichabod

So..... I guess you don't know of any good rides near Leeds, eh? That's OK, got plenty a friends and plenty 'o pubs to keep me occupied.

Because it's Yorkshire and there's the moors and the dales and stuff. But I can't be any more help than that.

When you are in Maui, if you have a day or 2, check out Hana. It's pretty cool. Not sure of bike trips, but www.petefagerlin.com has a video of coming down Haleakala. NOT the Maui Downhill, although I hear that's pretty cool too.

There's a gang of them that read this board. Post a new message asking for the phoenix crew specifically and I'm sure you'll get replies.

For Ohio try the message board at http://www.joinomba.org/

or search around www.spokejunkies.com if you have time. Their site isn't the easiest to navigate through. there are a couple messageboards here depending on the geographic region.

...ride Vulture's Knob about 45 minutes to an hour south (near Wooster). I think that Red Ascent who posts on here is from that area and could fill you in.
