While surfing the net I found this by accident.

Can you name this rider?

Here's a hint; he nearly won a world championship last year but a crash ended that very quickly.

Think about it now.

OK, remember I said a crash ended his chances at a title "very quickly"? Well, it was in 6th gear at 115mph.

MBUK did a Rob Warner vs. Colin Mc Rae DH race, Rob on his Giant, and Colin in his Subie (they ran Colin down a fire road, and Rob down a trail criss-crossing it. I forget who won.
Yeah, a lot of them do actuallySka!

Didier Auriol, Burns and co-driver Reid, Panizzi and his co-driving brother, Freddy Loix, Delecour and co-driver Grataloup just to name a few. Remember last year Delecour almost had to bail out of the Acropolis rally due to a wrist injury after wiping out on his bike during one of his off days? They claim it's all for "training purposes" but they have to admit they're just out having fun like the rest of us ;-)

Who was it that was penalized for going out on his bike and accused of "scouting" the conditions of the next stage during the night, I forget now. I think that was Delecour too. I just thought it was funny/stupid. I remember, during the highlights, the driver coming down the side of a hill and into the maintenance area while cameras were rolling. The press and officials run over...

"Where were you??"

"uhhh"

BUSTED!!

LOL.

Ska!

I would have liked to have seen that article you were talking about.

I have that crash on video at home, and it's scary to look at. For some reason the external view is scarier than the in-car cam angle. The look on Nicky Grist's face when they finally stop rolling is priceless.

On a MTB-related note:

Isn't bikemagic.com related to Maximum Mountain Bike Magazine? If so, WTF happened to that mag? That was THE best mag and I never missed an issue until they suddenly vanished. Do you know? If they're gone than I have ever issue they ever put out ;-(

Here's another Mcrae/bike connection

One of the original builders of the new Focus rally car also builds

...Chipps, and a few others who might have been involved with MMB, now run Singletrack magazine. As far as I know, MMB is no longer.

I just got issue 4 of Singletrack from my folks last night, and it gets better with every issue. High quality photography, good honest reviews, great interviews (Mike Ferrentino is interviewed in this one, and previous issues have had Gary Fisher and Keith Bontrager) kind of like the "Surfer's Journal" equivalent of MTB mags (but not as thick yet, unfortunately). They're also more focused on epic rides, singlespeeding, etc. than MBUK, which unfortunately seems more oriented at the dirtjump/XXXXX-treme!!! type reader these days.

MBR (Mountain Bike Rider) isn't bad if you're looking for a new mag, and I know it's available in Canada because Chris sent me an issue a while back that he got up there.

Check out www.singletrackworld.com for more....
Thanks man...Ska!

I have several issues of MBR mags and a couple MBUK but neither were, at least in my opinion, as good as MMB.

I will certainly check out Singletrack though. Sounds pretty cool.

Thanks!

Ska!
Yup. I like Singletrack too.scorcher

More Dirt Rag than Mountain Bike. I like thefact that they had a whole bunch of quality hardtail reviews, including Dekerf, Soulcraft, Dave Yates.

On a Chipps-related note, for something like 10 years I've ridden with a small booklet that he wrote and came free with MTB Pro magazine while he was on their staff. It is a booklet on trailside fixes and maintenance. I've not used it once in all that time, but it still gets tucked away in a zip-lock bag with my wallet and phone.

I dont know what that has to do with anything.
