Yep, funky little old mining town -- totally on the side of Mingus mountain -- with the most amazing views across the valley, looking right at Sedona -- a big hit with the Harley crowd from Phoenix on weekends -- and it has a nifty little hippy community, too. If you go, you must visit the Spirit Room....

Oh, yea, and for bike related activities -- well, Jerome is mostly known for the Mingus Mountain downhills -- never done them, myself, but I hear they are quite gnarly.....

...rediscovered by hippies....currently habitated by (rich) artists....only frequented by Harley riders on the weekends....personally, I think it lends character to the town.

Oh, yea, I got to take Fire School with the Jerome Volunteer Firefighters....that was cool.
Oh yeah.Pete.

We took the "short cut" through Jerome on our way back from Sedona/Spring Fling last year.

Funky/cool place with great views and lots of skanky Harley biker chicks.

Of the word 'skanky' in MTBR, at least for me.

Thanks, Pete.

its fun, an all-day adventure. We parked our truck at the cottonwood airport, and then went up to the mingus mtn rec area on top. There are two main single tracks that drop off the mountain, one is 1.something miles, the other 2.something. The one we did was the 2.something and it was pretty gnarly. Just some real technical sections and switchbacks. After the singletrack it is mostly just jeep roads the rest of the way down, its fun but nothing really crazy, except for the 2mile single track, but there are some cool places to ride berms and stuff on the sides of the roads. It is fun.
it's between Prescott and SedonaJimC

hanging off a cliff, old mining town filled with leftover hippies and urban escapees, can't get a very good pic but this will do I guess.

"Jerome is surrounded by the Prescott National Forest, home to javelina, mule deer, golden eagles and bald eagles. Prescott Forest has 11 campgrounds, including Horse Thief Basin, Lynx Lake and Mingus Mountain. Fishing and hunting are popular in the national forest. Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood has a full-facility campground. There's the Fairfield Snowbowl near Flagstaff for ski slopes, and the Grand Canyon is just a few hours away."

Hmm, its kinda coolJm

I saw a Merlin in someones garage one time as we passed.

It is built on the side of a mountain, and has amazing views of Sedona. But it is not the same alpine-setting of higher up on the mountain or over here in prescott. It is neat but I wouldn't want to live there, I'd rather live at Sedona where you have a lot more creature comforts or in prescott. Jerome is cool to pass, but real estate is kind of rare(good real estate that is). And when I mean "decent" i mean a decent house that is not slowly falling down the mountain. It is sheer hell too trying to get over the mountain on the road to Prescott. It is a decent road but there is a constant flow of 15mph winnebagos to put up with. It would actually be faster if they had a road that went AROUND the mountains to sedona(jerome is on the way to prescott.

Anyway, Jerome is really cool, but kind of isolated and not near any of the bigger towns(Cottonwood is nearby, but it seems kind of "junky" to me. Anyway its one of those cool niches, built on the side of a mountain(litterally) and has some neat small shops and restaurants. It is also a good place if you like harleys, there is a constant flow of harleys into the town. It is sort of a meeting place for them. It makes the "noise ordanance" quite funny IMO, if I EVER get pulled over for playing my radio too loud I am going to complain big time.
