| ride recap per KW's request... | airwreck Mar 5, 2002 9:03 PM | | no snow here so don't have that excuse. Plenty other excuses... Weekend before last, saturday went up the mountain for the same old loop, up the road, down the single track. Highlight of the ride was 4 fully decked out DH'ers skidding down the road, couldn't understand why they bypassed the single track and wondered if they were the same crew that someone wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper because they thought the "extreme mountain bikers were going to kill them". Also realized that we had just passed some hikers, who were kind enough to warn us of hunters ahead. Hope the DH'ers didn't nearly kill them. Took a half dozen carefully composed photos before realizing the camera had no film in it. Sunday, headed to the trail that we had been waiting to dry out, after the 500 feet of climbing to the trailhead, followed by a episode of disorientation, we didn't get more than 50 yards into the singletrack when Julie got a stick in her rear derailer, then rear derailer in the spokes, and a nasty bend to the hanger. Highlight of the ride was 500 foot rocky descent on single speed FSR trying to keep up with free ridin GF letting loose on my AC. Even with shock locked out it wouldn't stay in one gear. On my mid week solo evening ride I decided not to start the ride with a launch from the five foot high option, instead aimed for the conservative three footer. Did not take into account the "hard mud" landing, both wheels slid out from under, and I went down hard, slamming the side of my head. That was a week ago and my left thumb is still tweaked, my right temple area is still tender(scary), and the dirt rash on my back that replaced the almost healed reef rash from surfing the week before is still bugging me when I sleep at night. Stuck to the road this weekend. Here's a photo from 93, that's about how long it usually takes us to get a roll of film developed then scan the photo. Eric/yes the handle is appropriate. |

| ps... | airwreck Mar 6, 2002 11:50 AM | | after reading bikerchic I thought I would add that I was wearing a helmet when I slapped my head and that the pain that I am experiencing now may have come from the helmet itself(E2). Seriously considering more coverage now. |
| Nice and warm | LeeL Mar 6, 2002 12:42 PM | | Planning on bringing our helmets, shoes and pedals and renting bikes for at least a day when we're there. |
