Lost my winter weight today ...NewMex

I took off my front lights and battery as the days are long enough I don't need them anymore on the commute home. I was pleasently surprised at the leaner trimmer feel of the bike. Now if I could just take off that blubber belt I seem to be wearing.

I've been torturing myself (dieting) for weeks now and I've lost weight everywhere but there. It's frickin tough to get rid of. I've even resorted to *gasp* sit-ups.

~kw -just bought a bunch of XL jerseys.

I just bought two XL Jersey's too, but that's because the XXL were getting too baggie!

...accellerate the weight loss in that area anyway.

The fat goes off in the reverse sequence that it packs on. This is determined by genetics and beyond your control - exept if you undergo lipo suction. Unfortunately for most males (including me), it accumulates around the waist first - and disappears from there last.

Just don't loose too much weight too fast - then you're not loosing fat, but water and muscles - and your body fat percentage will actually go up.

BV (Was 215 when I moved to CA - then came a lot of riding and later racing. All that plus healty eating has reduced my weight to 182)

BV is right. Unfortunately the easiest way to burn fat fast is to either run or better yet - swim, and do it a lot. Measure your daily caloric intake, and reduce it by 200 calories a day if you can handle it.

Only reason I do situps..Kitchenware

is that it fills in nicely between reps, keeps my heart rate up and burns calories.

I've been feeding my muscles very well, which is why I haven't lost much weight, but I've dropped 2 waist sizes. I've just cut out the sugars and excess carbs when I don't need them. My eating habits were horrible before this. I would regularly have 2 pb&j's at 8:30-9 every night, everything was butter soaked and chased by a soda or whole milk. Pizza was a 4-5 times a week thing and vegetables/fruits were few and far between.

I think when I get to ride my bike a bit more, I'll get the trouble spots off quicker. I'm not thinking about it like a diet, more like changing my eating habits and increasing my ride time.

~kw -was 230 1.5-2 pack a dayer when I moved to CO, now I'm way healthier @ 190 shooting for 180ish.

You're right about the way your body burns fat, but your abs are large muscles and building them up will raise your body's caloric needs causing you to burn calories faster. Besides that, strong abs are important for technical riding where your whole body is moving together. A few years ago I was really concentrating on my abs and back and it made a big difference climbing tough lines.

..."they won't help you get the fat off your belly".

You are correct that strong abs are important for climbing.

Instead of hitting the weight room in the off-season, I climb ridiculously steep roads on my road bike. That is a good upper body workout.

Trailwork is great crosstraining, btw. Lots of upper body nmbottombracket

...although he probably doesn't know about the club ride Sunday. Come on, I'm even gonna ride. The Indy's basically done, just need to get some heavier springs for the fork (speaking of extra around the middle), but it's rideable. Let's go to the Cajun Kitchen for lunch again soon...

killing me. Last week I wuss out cuz it was too cold and this weekend I have to drive a bunch of Boy Scouts down to Carlsbad Caverens. I'm hoping to get back early Sunday PM but doubt that I'll make it back in time for the ride.

I'll give you a call for lunch soon or you can call me.
I never thought I'd see that posted!.......krank
