Sea Otter, who's going, from where and why?(11 posts)

Sea Otter, who's going, from where and why?reed

It sounds like a bunch of passionites are making the trek from all over the place to go to Sea Otter. I'm racing there myself, but happen to live in NorCal, so I'm curious where folks are coming from, why they are coming to race sea otter. Is it...

a great race compared to races in other parts of the country?

to watch the pro's race?

because it's so freaking gianormous (there will be 2,000 racers on the XC course by the time I depart!)?

because it's part of a larger trip?

because it's your first race (I know lots of people from NorCal for whom this is true)?

because you're a serious XC/DH/DS/MC racer?

because you're NOT a serious XC/DH/DS/MC racer?

Lots of passion posts (and justifiably so) are posts of epic rides (near or far), trips and gatherings. Sea otter seems to be attracting similar attention, but isn't quite the same thing as an epic trip to a mecca or gathering. I'm just curious what everyone's passion for this is.

Sea Otter is like running in Bay to Breakers...you get to be with thousands of people that shares the same passion as you do, and it's just a big party! Besides, Laguna Seca is only an hour away from Santa Cruz...and usually falls right during my spring break.

p.s. oh yeah, collecting schwags and meeting pros are strong incentives too.

I think I'm more excited about getting away from the everyday thing and hanging with a bunch of fellow bikers. I'm there to race as well and it won't be my first race.

enjoy,

Did I see your name in the letters to the editor section of MB Action recently?

and it really is. There's just so much going on, all kinds of biking, all levels of racing, fun rides, families, pro riders everywhere, and tons of bike and componenet manufacturers - you get to see all the latest bikes and components, things you might only get to see online. And it's just FUN. It's a great event, not even an hour away from Santa Cruz; this year will be my third Sea Otter XC race. Hope to meet some of you there.

And to drink copious amounts of beer. And to camp. And to ride

i to

the expo from camp- far, far away. That way, we can get rides in without riding the course w/ 50,085,265 other mtb'ers.

It's Sea Otter.. What can we say??? It's openning season to Mountain bike racing.. I have gone every year for the past 4 years.. there is no way i would miss it again. If this is your first Sea Otter event, then just wait.. You will see why it's number one mountian bike event of the year. Plus, you can get hella of awesome deals there on bike parts.

..I might have a couple of open spots at my campsite. Seems I'm having trouble getting anyone local interested. They either want to camp in a far away place or are not coming at all. Either way, I plan to be there Thurs-Sun afternoon. Hope to run into some other passionites there!!!

What else is there to say. I am honored to have the Sea Otter in my own back yard. Sorta my back yard anyway. Just a bunnyhop, skip, and a hay bale jump away. It's one of the few races where I am actually out there on the course with more women then men too!

Hope to see all you norcalmtbrers there!

and it will be my first larger race (and first race in sport).

I'm coming from Portland, OR and am using it as a beginning of a nice long road trip back. Plan to ride in the Redwoods, maybe hit an amusement park in San Fran. My wife and I have never been to San Fran and she has never seen the redwoods. Should be an excellent time from start to finish!!

Maybe we could do a MTBR meeting somewhere on Saturday afternoon to place faces with names??
