| Best Clipless shoe for NORCAL riding. | Zonic Man Feb 12, 2002 12:22 PM | | I ride everything. Not just XC. I need a rugged, durable, good shoe. My specialized Sports are coming apart a little bit at a time.
What shoes are a little warm as well?
Are Dominator 2/3 megas still the choice? I am 10.5 E.
Thanks for the info. |
| Sounds like you are a Vans candidate | kristian Feb 12, 2002 12:30 PM | | I have a pair of Double Crosses (I think that was the name). They are a downhill-oriented clipless shoe with lots of ankle protection--a little on the warm side, but not uncomfortable in the summer if you use wool socks. They have held up VERY well over the year and a half I've owned them. Best of all, they fit my wide feet well. I'm sure someplace like danscomp.com would have them but buying shoes on the internet isn't always the best idea (especially if you have wide feet). Good luck! BTW, there is a rubber section you need to remove to attach the cleat so it might not be obvious that it's a clipless shoe... |
| Vans dualist | JimC Feb 12, 2002 12:35 PM | | has a raised inner ankle thingy for us dorks that whack our ankles againgst the fargin' chainstays, which smarts. But isn't smart. anyhow, good shoes IMO. Jim |
| Owned the Duallys..... | Zonic Man Feb 12, 2002 12:41 PM | | And I am looking for a bit for performance oriented of a shoe with a stiffer sole.
Thanks for the info though. |
| That looks like the best choice | kristian Feb 12, 2002 12:42 PM | | At danscomp they have the Double Cross (which is definetely the shoe I have) for platform pedals but not the clipless version. The Dualist looks like a pretty good shoe too though. |

If you want to stay warm, get the ones without the mesh.

| sidi megas are a good shoe | moschika Feb 12, 2002 1:29 PM | | sounds like we have similar shoe size. i like the megas. i've had mine for about 2 years and they are holding up fine. a great shoe if you have a wide foot. |
| shoe suggestion... | airwreck Feb 12, 2002 10:44 PM | | I've been using the shimano 220 for about a year now and highly recommend them. I am addicted to the stiff carbon sole. But most importantly they have a nice soft rubber outsole for rock walking, which I seem to do alot of, along with plenty knobbage for loose dirt walking, which I also seem to do alot of. Mine are constantly wet and getting thrashed in the rocks, in fact I ripped the outside edge of one on a sharp rock almost immediatly when I got them and thought they were toast. Never did anything to fix the rip, and the shoes are still holding up great with lots of abuse. One of the best things about these shoes is the way they mate with the 545 and 646 pedals, you will quickly appreciate how they were made to work together, my old specialized sport shoes seemed to rock on the pedals, the shimano's get full contact while improving entry. Don't know about the width, gotta try em, but they do have a wide toe box. Seems like plenty of shops have them on sale for 90 to 100 bucks. five flaming whatevers. Eric |
