Sea Otter Question/Dilemma(6 posts)

Sea Otter Question/DilemmaFlea
Feb 12, 2002 12:40 PM
I'm heading to Sea Otter for the first time this year with a couple of friends and we are currently vacillating between getting an RV and camping at Laguna Seca or getting a motel in Monterey. I've heard that an RV will put you in the middle of the action but the night life can leave something to be desired whereas a motel provides more creature comforts and has a better night life (closer to Monterey) you have to trek to Laguna Seca every day.

Any thoughts from those of you who have made the trek to Sea Otter before would be greatly appreciated

availability will be an issue. Check the RV sites first. I'd be surprised if there is anything available at this time. That might narrow down the decision making process.

Next, start calling for rooms. If you find something its gonna cost you.

Sorry to be a downer.

...be prepared, by bringing your best sleeping pads.

One year, they made us pitch our tent on gravel, next to RVs & cars. That was noooooo fun.

It's 1.5 miles up the hill from Cannery Row - where the bars/clubs are. You can ride down there to party.

I like to stay at the 'primitive' camp ground. It's close to everything and you have a view of the Crit races. But, it's pretty low budge. You actually pitch your tent on the tarmac. Ourch. It's a parking lot. At first I was pissed about that, but then I was glad to be so close to everything. I didn't have to drive in or out of the area at all. Showers are hard to come by, long lines, and the outhouses are gross, but it's kind of where the action is.
Here is a tip for you..JCintheBA

Two years ago a friend and I took his RV down with no camp site reserved. We drove back behind the motocross track where some buses were parked and camped there. No one bothered us and we had a great time. For nightlife just head down to the hi-rent campground and you can find something to do. Bring weed or beer and you can party with anyone.

See ya there,

JC
