Why did bar ends go out of style. I still see a bunch of Pros using em.
who said they are a necessity?Jm

I use riser bars which feel more comfortable on my hands, so I don't feel any need for bar ends when climbing.
Use themKami

I used to love my bar ends. When I stopped using them, it took me a long time to get used to not having them. I loved the extra riding positions that they gave me.

If you want to use them, go for it. There is no reason not to. Hell, I used them on risers for a couple years, too! I think the reason that people don't like them anymore is because it's a fashion thing now. Of course the only time you would want them is for XC. Any other style (freeride, trials, DH) and they become a danger.

Anyway, I'm bored, so that's my 2 1/2 Canadian cents.
Bar ends? The more the merrier!AK Ken

In fact, becuase they aren't "cool", or "in style", or whatever, I've gotten my last 2 pair for a song - including a set of OnZa Ti mitre-bends that I love.

A lot of XC pros are either failed roadies, or hard luck roadies, or roadies who got tired of not winning, and thought "I bet I can beat those knuckledraggers on mountain bikes". I would NEVER use XC pros as a guideline for how to dress or build your bike.
I stopped using them to give more safety around treesRev Bubba

Nothing to hook onto in tight spots. Other then that, they do make sense for xc riding. Its just that I ride in some tight areas and have, on occassion, hooked a tree.

It has nothing to do with style.

I use a flat bar w/o ends
Because I use them.McCracken

I have that effect on the clothing industry as well. Parachute pants were the schit until I got a pair.

You wanna be cool? Get yourself an overweight, squishy freeride bike, preferably Kona or RM. Must be Bomber-equipped. Get a full-face helmet and deck yourself out in Fox/Roach/Dainese head to toe, and move to BC. Gotta use flatties with skateboard shoes. Go to the Cove bike shop and keep asking the employees "Which tire is the best?"

You'll be cool in no time
So what about "cool" and "style"greg n

They work for me. I've always used them and always will. It's the concept of riser bars that I don't understand.
