| Finally caught up with a caribou | AK Ken Feb 12, 2002 9:44 PM | | Unfortunately, the wolves caught up with him first.
If only he'd had his hemmett on, I'm sure he'd have been okay.

| Well, at least the caribou was wearing a helmet. | taco Feb 12, 2002 11:05 PM | | You can be too protective of your head when there are wolves about. |
| Well, no wonder.... | AlloyNipples Feb 13, 2002 4:24 AM | | it didn't get away. Looks like it only had two legs. |
| It's amazing how little goes to waste.. | Doc Feb 13, 2002 5:19 AM | | Look at it! it's like the whole carcas was put in a soup kettle and boiled until all the meat fell off- natures little scavangers do a great job.
Caribou burgers.... hmmmm..... yummy. |
| Hey Ken... | Doc Feb 13, 2002 5:23 AM | | Do you see many people up there on dog sleds?
I was wondering because I have a malamute and a husky that we hooked up to a sled the other day- it was so much fun! Those two dogs managed to pull a sled loaded with my fat butt faster than I could have run under my own power- quite impressive I thought. |
| Lots of dog teams here | AK Ken Feb 13, 2002 5:47 AM | | Yes, there are a number of dog mushers in the neighborhood, including 2 who have won the Iditarod 8 times between them.
I saw one dog team on the ride yesterday, but we met twice as we were going opposite directions on the same loop.
The distance racing dogs might average 12 or 15 miles an hour all day long for a week, while the sprint dogs go quite a bit faster, but those are short races, maybe a couple hours.
