And "operation clean sweep" begins...Mary Ann

In the continuing saga of the overworked Project Manager, I'd like to bring you the latest installment. We fired the technical team today! (At least the internal staff--we're keeping the contractors).

In a million years, I never thought my management team had the guts to make this decision. In fact I'm sure the internal technical management team never thought it possible too. They were flabbergasted and asserted "you'll never make it to the release without us."

Au contraire, my dear deluded friends: we'd never make it with you.

The next few days should be fun as the news gets disseminated to the lower ranks and the dust settles. Hopefully this will improve the situation. We're hiring a new technical project manager who will report to me, so at least now I'll have authority over the technical resources.

It's not a quick fix to our problems, but a big hurdle is finally out of the way. And I'm a relieved camper today.

... NOT! J/K Mary Ann. ;-)

It's good hear positive news on that front. It's kinda funny, where I'm at it's usually the other way around: Fire the contractor, and things get done!

Randy --> 'course it goes both ways, too. hehe
I've fired many a contractor...Mary Ann

I've hired plenty for this team over the last 18 months. At last count I've fired seven of them. With contractors it's very simple: you perform or you're out.

That's the thing that's frustrated me so much with this internal team. They haven't performed, don't even see that they haven't perform, and they have thought themselves impervious to being fired. It's almost impossible to improve performance under those conditions. Especially when they didn't report to me.

We have hope to turn things around now. I just hope I can manage this increased reporting responsibility now.

Mary Ann (what was that adage: be careful what you wish for?)

Yeah, gaining that extra responsibility does often suck. But by your account it sounds as if you're ready for - and able to handle - it. Good luck to you Mary Ann.

Riding will be a long way off for me! At least I have my trainer set up. I'll try to remember to ride it!

... a line a local news anchor said about MI winters recently:

* "In December we pray for a white Christmas... And we get it at Easter"

LOL...

Mary Ann your posts having become quite boring. Not that I actually sit and read your dribble. A quick scan of it can pretty much tell any reader that you seem to think that you are the only person out there who works for a living. As if other people dont deal with stress or office politics too. Im not here to rag on you. Just to try to make you realize that you are no different from anyone else. And if you feel its too much to bear, perhapes you should quit your job, move to Florida, trip acid everyday and sell painted sea shells to tourists. Its a far less stressful way of life. Except for when you knock over the paint tin and it spills all over the sand. And the sea gulls all laugh at you. Mocking you. That sucks.

Hope I helped.

.....is well known to many of us here. We've met her many times, riden with her, get birthday cards and phone calls from her and love her. We ARE interested in her stuff. If you aren't then I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what to do about it. But I can. Get lost.
Way to go! LOSERRookie

I always wondered how companies planned on getting the same amount of work finished with fewer employees. You cold hearted bastard manegment types all suck. The economy will turn around again (some day) and when it does, I hope every new employee you hire takes lots of naps and nooners. Never mind the fact thet the people you just fired still need to eat. Did you sent some work to Mexico or Taiwan so you could save some cash. Cheap F$%kers. You people will never friggin learn. Oh yeah I remember. You probobly have a Degree. Which means you know way more than other people without degrees. I envy you sooo much. (My heroes) I 've had many many many design jobs in the auto industry. The funny part is-every time the projects weren't finished on time had nothing to do with the workers and everything to do with poor management. funny how that works. All you people do is lay off employees who don't desreve it. While all the fat assed, under worked, over payed too much vacation having-Management types keep there jobs. It's kinda hard to get the job done when your department manager is gone for a month straight. Even when they're aroun they always seem to have no idea what's going on. WTF. Why do Dummy's get to run everything.

Hope you don't own a gun.

Maybe you should go to college with your newly found free time. The first thing you should study is economics and the laws of supply and demand.

I'm going to reply to this ridiculous post just so you don't take out your misplaced anger at me on someone else.

None of these people will lose their jobs. They will be redeployed elsewhere within their own internal organization. I just won't have to pay them for their incompentent management anymore (you have a point there--it's mainly the managers I'm letting go). Someone else can do that.

I recommend some deep breathing techniques.

Mary Ann (wants a bit of that "overpayed (sic) too much vacation" thing)
Glad to see that things are working out for youRev Bubba
