Fox vanilla R question... Is is possible to...hedgehog

blow your compression damper without affecting the rebound damper? My Heckler is bottoming out but the rebound damper still works fine. I took it off the bike, removed the spring and compressed the shaft all the way (like when it bottoms out). It compressed with little/no resistance.

Is my shock toast?
Yes, it's possible...Metroid

The Fox Vanilla has very little compression damping in the first stage of travel but then has a second stage to slow high speed "hits". You could have blown this second stage valve. You'll probably have to send it to Fox. Give them a call, 1 800 FOX SHOX.
That sounds like exactly what happened...hedgehog

Thanks for explaining the compression damper for me. The shock feels fine when you're riding over little stuff in the trail. But if you hit something while going fast or drop off anything it bottoms. I think you hit the nail on the head with your diagnosis.

Already got the RA # from Fox and will ship it tomorrow morning.

Thanks again Metroid!
