Great pics. Looks like fun, in a sick sort of way.
Day twokristian
Apr 22, 2002 7:05 AM
Unfortunately, I didn't get a single picture when everyone was together. I did get these on Sunday when we rode the trail that we had planned on riding after the shuttle on Saturday.

This section of trail is so flat that it's almost uphill (we even turned the camera so that it looked flatter :), and the boulder-like rocks are actually a lot smaller than they appear in these pictures.

NoSpode setting up.

The first picture of me with my new fork.

Allroy exits the bike. When he saw this picture, his comment was "at least I'm smiling." Smile or grimace of fear--you decide :).

Here he is getting redemption on one of boulders right below that.

Thanks to everyone for coming down--I had a great time riding with you guys and gal! Sorry the weather was so bad...I guess that means that you'll just have to come down and ride it again when it's sunny!

but good judgement tells me to wait until after the Fruita trip. I'm going to try and hang out there a bit this summer, maybe the kids will teach me something. -Like how not to make such a stupid face. :)

~kw -I must get better with flats, clips are going to kill me there.
Remember those kids?lidarman
Apr 22, 2002 10:02 AM
When I went out with the dogs as you left they were there again. This time they had a cooler and the one had his bmx bike again. They said they were having a blast. A few more days and he will be airing it big.

Yeah, or he'll be sporting a new pierced spleen. Sharpened handlebar ends with no caps frighten me.

I think I could hit the big one before that one the next time out. After thinking about it, it's not really any bigger than that one and the gap is about the same as that small tabletop (only higher). I'm gonna ride around tonight with flats and try and get used to them again so I can bail if I have to.

on east side. Have to bring my bike over one of these days. You may remember us from such activities as the annual 4th of July party sponsered by a variety of Wyoming fireworks facilities ;-)

I'm heading over there in just a few minutes. Small world. . .

Remove the tree behind KWs rear tire on the 1st pic, you could see my house. You guys tear it up while I'm gone for a couple of weeks. hope to post from Norcal. Gotta go get some snooze for an AM flight.
Is this that section that Bill was talking about?lidarman

Where you have to clear rocks or die?
I don't know--it may have beenkristian
Apr 22, 2002 9:19 AM
I didn't hear the conversation. Every time I take pictures there, I'm always amazed at how EASY things look in the pictures. That being said, it's not super difficult and after watching you on the Improv, I know you could clean it.

that looks like a blast....man, my new toy would be right at home on that section....is that the one we rode the last day I was there Kristian? mmmmmm, loose sharp rocks!!!
Nice looking ride!kristian
Apr 23, 2002 5:02 AM
Yup, that's the trail I took you on the last day you were here. They've completly removed all of the "trail closed" signs on the gnarly section (or someone else keeps removing them).

You'll have to bring the Balfa out here sometime!

Not that this pic has anything to do with that statement.

This pic was simply during a break and my comment was just for fun and has nothing to do with us hanging around and eating snacks.

Sorry if I imply anthing else.

No one dries beef like Jettstream!

K (never thought he would receive a bag of jerky as a wedding present! Thanks Dave!)
You are most welcome!Jettstream
Apr 22, 2002 9:17 AM
I've heard that beef is a non-traditional wedding gift, *unless* you're from the Western Slope. (Peaches, elkheads, and water rights are also acceptable.) Some goofball from Montrose told me that once. Honest.
Great pics....but....Shencycle

Great Pack animals...Timmy
Apr 22, 2002 8:40 AM
a lot of people raise them as pets for that purpose. Not uncommon to see them on trails in Colorado. Unfortunately they are also fairly stupid. Friends raise them and always have good stories to tell.

Apr 22, 2002 8:57 AM
It's hard to tell from the pic, but those animals' hind legs were on backwards. Weird.

Purely by coincidence, we saw this group earlier during the drive to the trailhead. EagleEyeWare spotted them, and spluttered with utter astonishment, "That guy has a... a... a jackass in his truck!" (That was shortly before the Gu-on-bagel incident.)

Gawd, what a fun day, despite the weather.

Yeah, heading out in a couple of daysKitchenware
Apr 22, 2002 8:55 AM
I should be leaving closer to the end of the week. My daughter has some school stuff she didn't want to miss, so we might not leave until early fri morning. ??? who knows though.

I'll get to ride here wed and thurs as much as I want if it happens this way so I'm ok with it. :)

kids wanted to get the hell out of school no matter what and the parents are the ones that said, "No, you have school work to complete." When did this all change?

Apr 22, 2002 9:22 AM
My daughter takes school very seriously and she's only in first grade. She's very interested in this CU engineering program for kids and there's this paleontology something or other that's going on this week.

She's too brainy for her own good. (her mom is smart, in case you're all wondering)

She's gonna be able to put me in a nice nursing home one day. ;)

Less then 3 miles to the end of 18 Road and downhill the whole way home. Maybe the driver can shuttle you up there before dropping the others off for Bingo. Don't forget to use the EXTRA strength Poly-grip or just leave the dentures at home ;-)

Good for her! There's lots of bones in the Fruita/Moab area too. Have you been to the fossils at the last Rabbit Valley exit? I remember it being a short hike a little off the highway so it's a nice, short, get of the car break. Hope I get a chance to meet her and your wife in Fruita or back in Boulder sometime. I'll drop you an email w/ my contact info for this weekend.

Cool, she and her brother are staying in Longmont with the grandparents for the trip, but confusing them with drop off and pick-up schedules was out of the question. That's why she would miss school. We're planning a trip to Dinosaur, Colorado later this spring, but that's still iffy.

My wife Kelly and I will be in Fruita though and we'll try and hook up. She's an advanced beginner (good climber - slow decender) so our rides might be slow to some. ??? Look for us on the loops mostly or I'll give you a ring at one of the numbers you sent (while I was typing this long thing). I'll e-you with our camping info if I get it straightened out.

~kw
Somebody turn up the thermostat next time. . .JS5280
Apr 22, 2002 8:53 AM
and I'll be there. I was planning to camp in the Springs and meet up w/ everyone but when the weather turned ugly, well, I wussed out. Burrrrrrrrr! I think I made the right choice. Should be decidely warmer these next two weeks in Fruita, Moab, Gooseberry, and beyond. Leave tomorrow :-) I'll be checking/posting on the Fruita Fat Tire Fest or feel free to email me (see profile or click email button for address)
