| Mutual Respect among the MTB community | Cabin Fever Apr 22, 2002 8:07 AM | | I just felt like expressing some thoughts. I really do think that mountain bikers are a different breed. how many times have i been on the trail fixing flats, and nearly every person riding by stops to ask if i need any help or if i have everything that i need. countless times i have been on the trail and just happen to stop and talk to someone, and we end up finishing the trail together. i just feel that of most of the people i have met, we're a lot more laid back and easy going than i'll find elsewhere. perhaps it is because when i interact with people whilst riding, we are doing what we love the most, and we are truly happy; not currently bogged down by out earthly toils and troubles. i'm just feeling sentimental right now, i guess. and i haven't ridden in a long time, so i need to remind myself of reasons i love this sport. ride on. |
| Ah, go to Hell...just kidding | Fat-tire Apr 22, 2002 8:32 AM | | I always get this dirty look from non-mtbiking friends when they ask what I'm doing this weekend, and I usually say "going biking". My weekly ritual seldom has anything to working out, or honing my techical skills. It has more to do with escaping, and hooking up with "my people." I did an out of town trip this weekend with my g-friend in what I consider a stuffy little retirement town (lost of straight laced, weaththy retirees) with some awesome single track. Driving into town, I felt like an outsider. But when we got to the trail head (late), and most of those riding were wrapping up, sitting around, having the days first brew, listing to some cool jams reflecting on the days ride, I felt right at home. It's hard to explain, but we're a different breed. |
