| silversurfer does the thurs. nite 'shore ride slipn'slide | JimC May 17, 2002 9:01 AM | | I arranged to have the regulars from the Thursday night ride join K'Endo and I for Brian's shore ride. We grouped up at 6pm, requiring we all sneak away early :). Alan Bardsley, Rotr no more (Tim), silversurfer (Brian Cannon from Feenix), K'Endo, and me and Tim's dawg Lady (sans helmet!).
After an uneventful climb of 1,000 feet, Krinkum Krankum was the choice; overcast skies denied us the Upper Oilcan option, it was dim. I was spent, after 10 days off the bike due to severe pilot error on my bike. Whu-eeeze.
Brian's Loco was not too far off the mark for a shore bike. We all re-engineered it mentally: a shorter stem, rear disc, Jr. T fork, et VIOLA! It would have been perfect.
Brian rode very well for an Americ, er, desert fox. His Kujos hooked up well; and he got over the bridges and ladders, and rolled a bunch of stuff most riders would walk. On a particular ladder section that is steep, off camber, has a 35 degree turn or two, and is surrounded by rock and roots and is about 2-5 feet up, Brian executed the best shoulder roll I've ever seen. Then we told him not to stick his feet between rungs (afterward), apparently you can break a leg doing that, as *red* did 2 years ago on Ned's. (Mental Owie! ~ She broke both bones).
We carried on and skipped Griffin and K'Endo took us down a lower section with lots of ladders and drops and mud and puddles and stuff. We all struggled, and K'Endo smoothed it all. *bastidge*, I gotta lean how to do that.
After a ride I think Brian liked, and we all did, off to the Pub for the obligatory beer. Then home, and a good night's rest.
It's good to be back on the bike, even if my arm isn't healed, it's close enough.

| No wonder silversurfer is a noshow for the Friday day-ride ... | Duncan! May 17, 2002 9:07 AM | | I'm off shortly for a spin down Ned's. Hey Brian, if you want to ride next week (possibly Tuesday morn) let me know. D. |
| Photo 1 | K'Endo May 17, 2002 9:09 AM | | Brian, still trying to hold that line ...
Kn. |
| Photo 2 | K'Endo May 17, 2002 9:12 AM | | Nuther bridge, this time a little closer to the center line.
Kn. |
| Photo 3 | K'Endo May 17, 2002 9:19 AM | | Voila, c'est moi! Ummmm ... steeper than it looks?
Kn. |
| You're board, K'Endo | JimC May 17, 2002 10:00 AM | | yep steeper than etc etc. Nice pic, that camera is working well for you. I note there's not ONE pic of me walking the stunts! bletch. Jim |
| Correction ... | K'Endo May 17, 2002 12:04 PM | | You should've said "your board" - I OWN that move, baby!!
Kn. |
| Is that by chance.... | Yoda May 17, 2002 10:46 AM | | ...the entrance to upper oilcan?
When we were up there, I saw some guys roll down that like it was a walk in the park. Then I rode over to see what they were riding down. Yeesh!
Maybe some day I'll work up to that type stuff. Krinkum was just about all I could handle this trip, though. (Which is about a 100% improvement over my previous Shore experience) |
| Nope. This is on another trail towards the bottom of the Mtn.... | rotr no more May 17, 2002 11:37 AM | | It is below the orange gate where we started.
You rode quite well that day. I wouldn't be surprised it a few more rides would have you jumping and airing most, if not all, of the trails we rode. Some of them even on purpose. :-)
Take care, and time to arrange another trip up north.

| er, YUP, it's on Krinkum | JimC May 17, 2002 2:19 PM | | that's the off-camber ladder of doom (well for me it is). Maybe later this year when both arms work again? Jim |
| I still say... | Bonee May 17, 2002 11:58 AM | | all you north shore riders are possessed. Crazy riding you got up there, and from other pcitures I've seen, these are tame. |
| real life | JimC May 17, 2002 1:42 PM | | big knockers and pretty faces, like major hucking, is for the young, and often only at the movies. Whatcha got here is 5 guys, one imported from Phoenix on his second time on the 'shore, and aging engineer of hydraulic persuasion, a 55-year-old telecom sales guy, another aging database engineer, anther aging sports equipment supplier, and a middle aged dog. Pretty real life. On the trail we ran into another group of grey-haired duds, er, dudes, one is an ex-bikebuilder at DeKerf. We all were smilin', no huckin'. Well, 'cept K'Endo.
As Warren Miller sez, to anyone attempting a bunny hill: they think it's extreme, and it *is* to them.
Jim *no I don't huck, I'm injured from my last crash* C |
| Jimcee, Jimcee, Jimcee | Cleavis Pin May 17, 2002 2:48 PM | | You underestimate yourself. Afterall, You cleaned the waterfall on National (or else that picture of you was photoshopped).
Yer younger than you say. Or, maybe, you just have more decades of practice.

| Cee Pee, Cee Pee... | JimC May 17, 2002 6:40 PM | | I made a mistake, reversed the numbers of my age. I'm 55, just to set the record straight.
On the Waterfall, it's not easy, I can show you how. We should talk offline and you can do it. No worries!

| advice???? for getting to the shore | Castle May 17, 2002 12:39 PM | | Here's the deal I want to plan a trip to Vancouver and I'm not sure if this trip will be for a week or for a month or a whole summer......nor when I'm just getting started planning....I'm wanting to know when the best time to be there would be? What months? I'm also curious of where I could find out about differnt places to stay. I want to come and ride up there so bad there's a chance I could transfer schools to up there. I'm 21 getting ready to have my 2 year from a community college. Any good info is of great help.....I should also ask will a all mountain sort of bike get the job done? Or should I go start looking for a bike to buy when I get up there? I am from Roanoke,Va just to get an idea of the traveling and what not so I would deffinatly be flying there. any help greatly appreciated,,
