| anyone for some freeriding action in Auburn this weekend | Jm May 17, 2002 5:53 PM | | I'd be up to doing some freeriding in the area, might be DHing one of the days, but I wouldn't mind some Clementime/Stagecoach work, up and down.
note: It won't really be "free". |

| actually now I am thinking of doing Georgetown- | Jm May 17, 2002 6:38 PM | | I remember how much fun me and JFR had up there a few years back, lots of really fun trails up there, and it will be a lot cooler than Auburn or Salmon Falls would be, I have a guidebook but the area can be somewhat tricky, anyway I think I might try that tomorrow, at the very least go up there and stick my nose around and explore some of the singletrack. I am open to riding Sunday though as well. |
| Too late, I'm already packed. | Finch Platte May 17, 2002 7:02 PM | | |
| NO SOUP FOR YOU! | Jm May 17, 2002 8:15 PM | | heh, well we'll just have to do it another time then. I really want to get back and go over the trails up there again. You can only do Salmon Falls and Auburn so many times.... |
| What guidebook? | meimine May 19, 2002 9:32 AM | | I live in the area and want to explore stuff around Georgetown. I hear it has some nice stuff. What guidebook do you use? |
| the guidebook helps, but | Jm May 19, 2002 6:52 PM | | it is not an end-all, I got some forest service maps at the Georgetown Ranger station which were very helpfull. The book I have is the 3rd edition of "Mountain Biking in the High Sierra", I am sure they are on the 7th or 10th edition by now, and hopefully they are a little better, the book though does give a good idea of stuff in the area and good rides, the problem is that rides are always changing, trails are closed or they change significantly, so its always best to have something a little more current. I bought the book like 6 years back at the Camino Ranger Station. The motocross maps at the ranger station actually show all the trails in the Georgetown OHV(its not all OHV) area, which is nice, it doesn't show elevation changes though, so I am going to pick up a topo map of the area here at the Camino Ranger station near where I live. But you can go ride with only the map from the ranger station, it was pretty good and I used it. I had a good time and rode some fun single track, there is lots of good riding in the area, but it just isn't known very well, which is good for those of us that are motivated to ride there, since we will have it largely to ourselves, compared to Auburn or Salmon Falls. There are WAY more miles of trails up past Georgetown though than either of those other places I just mentioned. |
