First time at Noble Canyon - A crash clip ~VIDEO~(7 posts)

First time at Noble Canyon - A crash clip ~VIDEO~mtbbill

Today was my first Noble Canyon ride in Pine Valley/Laguna Mountains about 45 or so east of San Diego. I was pretty happy with my dab-to-clean ratio. I even managed to clean the most technical sections after multiple attempts. Some of them took me as many as four attempts. No endos and no bloodshed. Life is good! I did have knee/shin guards and elbow pads on which definitely kept me from being a blood donor today. There was only two occasions were I actually crashed versus dabbing. One was on my third attempt to clear the last of the really technical sections near the bottom of the canyon. I could not get clipped out in time and did my falling tree imitation.

The other was a double wipeout. I am rolling along when the guy in front of me takes a low line and starts loosing it. I try to make a last second change to a higher line and well....I failed to execute. I then find myself sliding down the side of a very steep loose hill. When I come to a stop, I am clinging to the side of this hill. With the slope of the hill I am almost standing up. My left leg is pretty much full extended and about 12 feet below the trail, but my right leg is tangled up between the handlebar, frame and the ground. I try to get my leg out and I slide a little and I hear a bunch of rocks rolling away down the hill. I could have probably gotten my leg out but my bike would have gone down the hill some ways. Lucky for me, I was with homees who helped me get untangled to continue on this kick ass trail.

Check out the video clip of the crash below.

Great clip there has been many people that have gone off in that same spot. The trail is so loose and eroded in that section that it allmost forces you to the left and your bike slides out down the side of the mountain. What a killer trail it is though talk about technical WOW this one has it.

Since I didn't get to see the crash that gave a pretty good perspective. It was nice of Collin to grab his bike before helping you though.........

I just didn't want to carry the gear on this ride and I knew Bill was going to roll tape so I just didn't bring the stuff with me. Unfortunately, Bill's system had some technical difficulties so I don't know how much good footage he ended up with. I'll get some done this year but I need to find a better way to protect the camera in my bag for this trail. If I come back from a ride with the camera in little pieces I think my wife would divorce me :o)

Our game plan today was to do a full video of Noble but I had some technical difficulties. About 1/2 a mile further down the trail, before stairway to hell, I managed to knock the battery loose from the Camcorder in my pack. When I reviewed the footage you see a see me coming up to a couple of rocks you hear me give a grunt and then nothing! I have quite a bit of footage, but I don't think a video of Noble Canyon would be complete without some footage of the stairway in it.
