did my 1st norba national (Alpine Valley, WI) on Sat... after watching Alison Dunlap and Roland Green kick some butt, i was feeling quite inspired.

or not. it was just a little wet.

the afternoon after the pro's raced; there was this monsoon, turning the trails from tacky w/ some mud holes to a total mud pit. decided that after paying a small fortune to register, might as well race.

slipped and slid my way into last place onto the single track (mostly trying to avoid the tangles in front of me), where everyone dismounts and begins the push around the course. it was about 6mi/lap, probably had to push about half of the 1st lap due to the ankle deep mud and folks falling in front of me so i was forced to dismount and push until a semi-rideable section was reached.

managed to pass a few women during this time, as i was able to ride just a little bit more and it was faster than pushing.

lap 2 went quite a bit better than the 1st. fewer folks around, trails were drying (??) quickly. going from slime to tacky. actually made some of the climbs. even passed a few more folks.

drive train didn't explode, nor did i crash. 11 started, and i ended up 7th out of 9 finishers (sport women 30-39). woo hoo!

YOu've really stepped up the level of competition from the old days of LOCO. And your ferce battles against a lone competitor to just trying to catch the boys with the 4 minute head start.

All the mudd reminds me of my lonce LOCO race way back when. I still remember telling myself over and over as I went around the course that I had to stay ahead of you and not get lapped. Only after the race did I find you you managed to flip and break your seat.

At Least you did have to use a Rope to pull yourself up the cilmbs like we did in that race.

Crongrats.

Doesn't always matter how you placed. Just the fact that you were out there laying it on the line, giving it all you've got is pretty cool...

I took some picts of the woman's short track (post above)and was pretty amazed at how Alison Dunlap dominated the field. Keep racing 'cause somebody's eventually gotta' catch this woman!
