A father's day fit for a passionite....Photos of course....ironlegsracer

We headed out for a Father's day ride. Not just any ride would do.My goal has been to do the entire loop before he turned seven,he'll be sevn in October.Keep in mind he was doing the loop on a child seat and a trail a bike at 3 & 4 years old.Starting with the climb.650 ft of elevation in 3 miles.Ater reaching the top,I gave him the option of the short way, down the BUMP trail (see the photo caption contest photo) or the long way down the gravel road.Hmm although he's done the BUMP trail/bloodrock before he chose the long way. This was to be our second attempt at the 17 mile loop.Last time we had to finish on the road due to fatigue and lack of water.Which still was 15 miles.Today was to be different.Today was to be the day we would succeed.Overcast weather and plenty of water helped.Below is the photo journal of our ride.

This is good for 35 mph in the other direction.

At the top 5 miles into the ride.

This is 12 miles into the ride.

Known as the rock garden, this is 14 miles into the ride.

With 1.5 miles to go,this section has some places handlebar width.

This is at the trailhead after the 17 miles.See you on the trail!

Damn - not getting the photos!radair

17 miles is a heck of a ride for a 6 year old. My 9 year old gave me a coupon for Father's Day today that read "2 hour bike ride - you choose the day". I don't think we'll get in 17 miles, but it will be a good one.

My daughter (7 in November) still goes in the trail-a-bike for anything longer than three miles.

Was the total elevation gain 650ft? It looks like he's got only one chain ring. The problem with the trails around here is that there's nothing fun AND flat. If your dad didn't buy you a bike with a granny, you ain't going nowhere.

Thanks for the post.

Total is about 800 ft.From lowest to highest.ironlegsracer

That was great ! I have a 6 year old and I have a hard time to get him on the bike. He's so afraid of falling - and clipless pedals WOW. I have friends who think I'm nuts for using them.
Nice one, Congratulations.......nmRev Bubba

awesome. We took my buddies nephew out a couple years ago. He was riding a fisher...umm...a fisher...umm...Joshua, yeah, the kids version... nifty single pivot, steel, tank of a bike. Weighed at least 35 lbs. Anyway. We took this kid out there when that bike was new (so he didnt have much experience "muuntain biking") and he did really well. He just rode stuff that Ive seen adults, who have more experience "mountain biking" than he had, have to walk some of the stuff that he rode without a second thought.

Anyway. Umm why did I write this..God its too early, need more coffee,
