hey there...

i think its great you have managed to lose so much weight, and that you seem to have done it in a smart and safe manner. my question to you is...what is the number one thing in your mind, that helped you lose weight? drinking lots of water? eating different foods? less food overall? mountain biking more?

I ask cause I want to lose some weight, nothing drastic. im 6'0 180, and i want to get down to 165-170. I hear sometimes its harder to lose that kind of weight, than the major weight you have lost. Any advice? Or advice from anyone else?

thank you

They provided a plan I could stick to. Basically, it was and remains a balance between eating much less and exercising much more. I probably cut my caloric intake in half although the amount of food was not reduced as much as changed to healthier products.

I went way up on salads and vegatables and have almost done away with meat. This is not a big deal to me as I never was a big fan of meat and would much rather have fish.

I probably do a one to two hour ride 3 times per week and a two to three hour ride twice a week plus I include a one hour power walk at lunch. Much of my shorter riding is on roads where I can keep up a good pace. I have used Kenda Kwest road tires on my hardtail and that makes it more fun.

While I have tried to include situps and pushups, I can't say that I've stuck to them. Riding and walking have done wonders to firm up my whole body.

Yes, drink lots of water. It helps clean you out.

If I can think of one reason I have been as successful as I have it is because the WW program was one that involved a large group of co-workers and I like to win so I looked at the weight loose as a competition I could win but that is a personal thing.

Good luck. After 14 weeks I am now down 45.2 lbs and have 4.8 lbs to reach my goal of 50 lbs off and a 189 lbs. body weight. I am 5'11"

Last year I had to drop a few pounds. I am 5' 11" and weighed 200. I am now 165. I lost 40 pounds in three months. I was a little worried when I dropped under 160 but then rebounded to 165. I didn't lose weight by starting some new type of diet. But I did change my life style. The key thing was changing the food I eat. I went from eating three meals a day of garbage to eating five meals a day of low fat healthy foods. A little different then Rev but for me it works. And I learned how to read the nutrition labels on the back of all the foods boxes. I try to stay around 20% fat intake. Don't be miss lead by the lies that food companies put on the front of their packages. I am sitting here looking at a yogurt container that says 99% fat free but the nutrition label say Calories 170 and Calories from Fat 15, otherwise the yogurt is 8.8% fat. Divide CFF by cal and this will give you the percentage of fat that is it. And sugar and white flour I avoid as much as I can.

I have to agree with Rev in that drinking lots of water and power walking everyday at lunch for 40 minutes made the biggest difference for me. I also bike at least three days a week for an hour.

Last thing when it came to eating healthy I talked to my doctor and she told me to buy this book. "Don't Eat Your Heart Out" Talks a lot about heart problems but has about 300 recipes that I just about live on.
what's so misleading?Perry

99% fat free means that for 99 grams of "stuff", 1 gram will be fat...

If you figure that a container of yogurt contains roughly 200 grams of "stuff", 2g will be from fat, and there you have it, 18 calories from fat. If you consider the product to be mostly water, and some sugars and protein then you'll have about 40g from sugars/carbs and proteins, resulting in a total of about 170 calories, including the 2g of fat. However, yeah, calories from fat would be roughtly 10%. To only have 1% calories from fat, you could only have about .2g of fat--sounds rather unreasonable, IMO, as well as being not particularly tasty.

Having 10% of calories come from fat in a product does not mean that it contains 10% fat. What's so misleading about that?
