| Grips | Endo Jul 12, 2002 11:48 AM | | Is it just me, or putting dual compound grips on your handlebars one of the hardest things to do for a bike? Cuz I was just working on it for 15 minutes, and one side still isnt on all the way! and i got a blister! NO, make that two! what the hell!?! Any advice that might help me out? |
| Yep... | Yoda Jul 12, 2002 11:53 AM | | Get ODI Lockons.
Before that I used to squirt rubbing alcohol in between the grip and bar. Slips right on/off, but it sometimes took a bit to dry back out. I think some people just use water as well. |
| ODI's are the way to go | d2az Jul 12, 2002 11:57 AM | | Normal grips are always hard to get on and off, but somehow manage to spin on you while youre riding. I've been really happy with my lock-ons. |
| third that -odi - or hair spray. | chupacabra Jul 12, 2002 1:11 PM | | hair spray is alchohol, but dries to a nice tacky grip, odi's work better, but if you're stuck on normal grips (bad pun), hair spray is the way to go. |
| dig my ODI's, but...... | PmbH Jul 12, 2002 1:17 PM | | They don't rotate and were easy to put on, but if I don't have my hand centered just right on the grip, they can be painful. The aluminum rings that lock on the grip aren't very soft. |
| Probably been asked a thousand times already, but (no spoiler) | Mojo Man Jul 12, 2002 12:02 PM | | what's the argument against hairspray. Mine went on that way and I have'nt had a problem. |
| spoiler here | d2az Jul 12, 2002 12:05 PM | | I think depending on some of the chemicals in the hairspray/grips it might eat away at the rubber. |
| Ah, that makes since. | Mojo Man Jul 12, 2002 12:11 PM | | "Honey, I screwed up and I have to get new grips."
"Grips? Something for the bike I assume."
"Yeah, but it's dangerous the way it is."
"Oh, you better get some then."
"Yeah, I have to go anyway for the new (insert product here to be thought of on the way home).
"OK, have fun." |
| My argument.... | Yoda Jul 12, 2002 12:29 PM | | ....I live alone and don't use hairspray.
It's "use what you got" thing for me. |
| might sound stupid but... | easyRider Jul 12, 2002 11:55 AM | | I just use lots of spit on the bar and in the grip. Works everytime with my Yetti's |
| Rubbing Alcohol.... | Topher Jul 12, 2002 12:47 PM | | works like a charm. Just pour some in the grip and on the lever and it slids right on. Wait 5 minutes and that's all she wrote.
I love my ODI's though.

| Lockjaws. | celly Jul 12, 2002 3:09 PM | | 'nuff said. |
| re: Grips | Arrowhead Jul 13, 2002 1:58 AM | | I use black spray paint w/ Oury grips.
Works like a charm.
They go on easy and they don't rotate, no matter how hard I tweak 'em. |
