Anyone read the latest issue of Bike? Good article on MTBing in and around Ketchum/Sun Valley Idaho.

I was just out there for - cough, cough - "work" a few weeks back and managed to get two hikes and one ride in.

Man oh man, some of the SWEETEST singletrack I have ever seen resides around this place.

It's as if the groomers from the ski area pass the summer hours away by creating some of the buffest singletrack you ever will see.

There are rides right from town that could go an hour or all day (or a few days!). The climbs are not brutal at all, and the trails really do "roller coaster" causing high readouts on the "grin-o-meter!"

It was a stark contrast from my usual East Coast rides - not a root in sight and only the occassional rock to roll over. I actually shifted into the big chain ring here... have yet to really need that where I ride in New Hampster!

There's many hard tail riders around here and I can see why - big travel really isn't needed. A "shorter" travel dually that climbs well (Spec. FSR or Trek Fuel) would be pretty dang good as well for all day epics.

I was really suprised with the Vibe from Ketchum. It lacks the "over-touristry" feel of most mountain towns (read: only one t-shirt shop) yet is not super pretentious as you would believe due to the uber-rich people who live in and around the area. Good bars, great restaurants, good bike shops (six of them in all - Sturtevants was very helpful to me).

I'll definitely be back to this place with my Fiance (my WIFE in 8 days... yikes!) - great riding, beautiful mountains, good whitewater, great hiking, great town with a great vibe and not very crowded in the summer... who could ask for more?

Best of luck for your wedding Pete!

I saw the article too. From the pics in the magazine, the trails certainly do look like butter. I'm looking for work, and may have to focus my energy out that-a way 8Þ !

Yo Martini!

Good to see your still around... what's up with you and Lisa?

If you are looking to get back into the retail end of things, I have a very good contact at a shop out there through work.

E-me (plewis@timberlandNOSPAM.com) if you need more 411.

Later!
