| Parts of the Pike NF reopened. | Jettstream Jul 13, 2002 9:01 AM | | The entire Pike was closed to the public about a month ago because of wildfires, namely the Hayman. Yesterday, the Nat Forest reopened a handful of campgrounds and developed areas to public access, but that doesn't help us all that much, yet. From the press release:
"In general, however, the Pike National Forest will continue to remain closed for hiking, biking, picnicking, on and off road travel and other recreational uses. All roads and trails in the forest, except county and state highways, will continue to be closed for use, including those surrounding the campgrounds selected for opening."
So, for example, even though the Kenosha Pass CG and the Jefferson Lake areas are now open, the ride from Kenosha to Georgia Pass is not. Nor is the Barr Trail, or Cap'n Jacks, or Buff Creek, or Indian Creek....
Still, it's a start. Hopefully, more of the Forest will be opened to us soon. Hopefully the fire damage that we've suffered is the worst that we will see this year. C'monnnnnnn, monsoon weather. |

| Hey.... | Timmy Jul 15, 2002 6:21 AM | | at least they're still there.
How've you been chief? |
| Slow. Hot. | Jettstream Jul 15, 2002 7:09 AM | | I've been in more of a hiking mood this season, and I haven't been doing much biking at all. I still surf Passion way too much though, it's a hard habit to break.
And even up at altitude, it is frickin' hot and bonedry. There's a permanent snowfield up near Arapahoe Glacier that you can see from Boulder; it completely melted at the end of last summer for the first time since I moved here. This year, it is already almost gone. What a summer.
Hope SandyEggo is treating you and Vach well. |
