| New Magazine now has on line subscriptions | NWrider Jul 14, 2002 8:07 AM | | www.iheartbikes.com a new magazine about the culture, art, riding and the lifestyle of cycling now has on line ordering for subscriptions, t's and socks. Order early and recieve free socks. |
| Take it to the marketplace (nm) | K-Zero Jul 14, 2002 9:10 AM | | |
| where would you suggest???? | NWrider Jul 14, 2002 9:54 AM | | I could list it under front suspension. maybe wheels. or forks? where would you suggest?
Obviously I don't want to offend anybody, but there is no other place to post info about this. I am not selling parts so the marketplace doesn't make sense. Also since we are a subscription (not advertising) based mag we are not trying to sell brands to you. Of course we are trying to sell the mag but it's not for the huge salaries that we make (sarcasm) it to produce a mag worth reading. |
| You know what? You're right... | K-Zero Jul 14, 2002 2:58 PM | | ...there isn't any appropriate category in the marketplace for what you're selling. I guess that means your spam has no place in mtbr, period.
K-Zero |
| You know what? You're right... | NWrider Jul 14, 2002 3:23 PM | | So tell me K-Zero, if it was your mag what would you do? stand in a bike shop and show it to each person as they walked in the door. Wait they might be offended that you were pushing a product on them that they didn't want.
Thanks for your support Dijridoo. The bottom line is this. We are some writers and photographers that you know and some that you don't. Some of us are out of work because of coorperate downsizing of mags you now read. We are trying to make a magazine worth buying and are paying for it out of our own money. We have no investors and don't have a million dollar marketing budget. we have about an eight dollar marketing budget. But like I said we are making a mag like you've never seen.
So K-Zero I thought you all might be interested in knowing about our publication, but as it seems since I forced you to click onto my posting and made you read my spam that you have nothing better to do than to bash someone who is making something that might get more people on bikes.
so I ask you again, how would you find potential readers? |
| If you don't know how to advertise, you shouldn't be in business | Zonic Man Jul 14, 2002 3:36 PM | | Period.
Why should you be able to advertise here for free?
If you don't know how to market your product properly, you have no business being IN business.
Pay up, or pedal your wares elsewhere. |
| As Pete would say.."LOL. That's rich" | K-Zero Jul 14, 2002 4:06 PM | | Thanks for the laugh.
"I forced you to click onto my posting and made you read my spam"
Experiencing false sense of power, are we? To tell you the truth, I didn't even read your whole spam...I just wanted you to realize that your post was inappropriate, especially given the financial situation that this site is in right now.
"...you have nothing better to do than to bash someone who is making something that might get more people on bikes."
Uh...no. I don't care about you or your magazine, period. It was just your action that got to me.
"how would you find potential readers?"
Are you kidding me? You're tying to sell a magazine and posting here is the best marketing move you can come up with? No offense, but maybe you should look through your local junior college catalog for intro business course.
K-Zero <<--stepping off the stage now |
| Is Pete your idol or something? | Jed Jul 14, 2002 5:03 PM | | I think there are better role models than that guy. No? |
| Nice ad. | Blackalicious Jul 14, 2002 9:13 AM | | This may or may not work though. Since people naturally resist ads being thrown at them, they may avoid the site. |
| Now don't you wish you'd paid the $3? | Twilight Error® Jul 14, 2002 9:36 AM | | I've added yours to my list of sites not to bother with. |
|  "receive", "sex" | ->sp<- Jul 14, 2002 10:01 AM | | eye b4 ee3ee, xcpt aftr sea
Hope that's not indicative of the quality of your mag's editing and content.
Good luck, spammer. |
| Does MTBR get free advertising on YOUR website? | Zonic Man Jul 14, 2002 11:26 AM | | I mean, since you come to this site and advertise, it would only be fair, right?
Oh, and they should be able to do it without your consent, I'm sure.
What is this, a business?
Nah.
Craig, moderate this loser. |
| Geez, people! Take a pill | Dijridoo Jul 14, 2002 12:58 PM | | Why is everybody so frigging quick lately to jump down the throats of posters who don't do or say exactly what you all think they should?
It seems like there have been quite a rash of total flames dumped upon folks for no real reason than sombody else's opinion of what's right or wrong.
In this case it seems to me that NWrider posted a couple of months back, looking for input on what riders/readers would like to see in a qaulity print magazine aimed toward folks like US. The response was fairly favorable and supportive. Now what gives? Sheesh! |
| I guess you missed the post by francis... | K-Zero Jul 14, 2002 2:46 PM | | This may help you see NWrider's post in different perspective.
K-Zero <<- no need for a "chill pill" |
| What does that have to do with it? | Dijridoo Jul 14, 2002 2:57 PM | | Yes, items for sale should be posted on the marketplace (i.e. somebody's wheelset yesterday). But in this case the guy is following up on an earlier topic which nobody seemed to mind THEN. And his "product", if you will, hardly seems to fit any categories of Marketplace (or even the concept of it).
Yeah it sucks about the financial state of MTBR. I am making every effort personally to click on sponsors' links and the next online purchase I make will absolutely be via links on this site. But hey I shouldn't be wasting my time defending myself or others here for a topic such as this. I was just trying to remind folks of the origins of the subject and venting a bit at all the venom around here lately.
Well, I have better things to do - like go for a ride! Seeya. |
| Have a nice ride! | K-Zero Jul 14, 2002 3:01 PM | | As for the issue with marketplace category, see my response above.
K-Zero <<- just came back from a nice hard ride |
| I was going to reply on this subject... | Lord Opie Jul 14, 2002 3:58 PM | | ...but then I got high. |
| Smart move....not worth arguing... | sheebo Jul 14, 2002 6:39 PM | | over something so trivial. I don't see anything wrong with the original thread. Certainly nothing threatening to MTBR. So the guy has a hard on about mtn biking and wants to share it with others. Give him a break and chill. Just my 2 cents. |
| Replies to this post are more proof of Passions arrogant members | Jed Jul 14, 2002 4:43 PM | | I read the replies to this post and it only re-inforces my belief that there are many people in Passion that are arrogant snobs. If they dont like what someone posts, they go off. Are you like that in real life, or do you only do it hiding behind a computer?
The list of arrogant snobs I have encountered...
- Pete
- Twilight Error
- K-Zero
- Zonic Man
Get off your high horses people. If you dont like a post on this board, dont freaking reply to it. |
| So why don't you beat it, then? | Zonic Man Jul 14, 2002 4:51 PM | | "I read the replies to this post and it only re-inforces my belief that there are many people in Passion that are arrogant snobs."
So go away.
"If they dont like what someone posts, they go off."
Uh, yeah, exactly.
"Are you like that in real life, or do you only do it hiding behind a computer?"
Hiding?

| A Pete wanna be LOL... | Jed Jul 14, 2002 5:02 PM | | Repeating parts of someones posts and then commenting on them. LOL, geesh, be original. Some of you people are just too high strung, ya need to relax a little. |
| Hello Pot? | Zonic Man Jul 14, 2002 5:08 PM | | This is kettle calling.
You're black.
Oh, and what part of rational thinking DON'T you understand?
When you are replying to someone's sophmoric and idiotic comments, why isn't it more prudent just to quote them?
Is this that part of common sense that you don't understand?
You're one funny guy, and no, I'm not laughing with you.
Again I'm ashamed we share the same namesake,

| LOL | Jed Jul 14, 2002 5:12 PM | | I'm starting to think maybe you are Pete. Man, so eager to sling the insults. Go for a ride, it will relax you. |
| Speaking of "slinging" | Zonic Man Jul 14, 2002 5:14 PM | | Instead of taking the common "out", why don't you just think before you speak in the first place?
It'll help you out of a lot of embarrassment, least of all places, here. |
| OK | Jed Jul 14, 2002 5:17 PM | | |
| Damn. Someone could write a clueless newbie FAQ based upon your | Pete. Jul 14, 2002 7:27 PM | | posts.
The ole "you upset me so you need to go for a ride" fallacy.
Do you realize how hilarious, and utterly predictable, your posts are you silly newbie?
Pete
p.s. there are still a few classic clueless newbie comments that are left. I 'm sure you can get them out of the way in the next few days. |
| Like I said, do you act like this in real life? | Jed Jul 15, 2002 3:01 AM | | Snob. Prick.
These are a few words that describe your on-line behavoir. Do you act this way in real life? I may be a newbie, but it doesnt take long to figure people like you out. Post a video or something, instead of this nonsense. |

K-Zero
p.s. can't wait to read your gathering recap BV! |
| The only thing worse than bad publicity is no publicity =) | Lord Opie Jul 14, 2002 6:55 PM | | As for why everyone went off on you... imagine catching the guy leaving stuff on your front door. Sheesh, I hate junk mail.
I think the people here don't want junk posts. But the problem is... they have to chase off advertisers individually. That can lead to what you see happen.
THE PEEPS HERE: Petition the site to make changes or you'll simply find yourself frustrated *every* time someone posts an ad here.
PS: As a guy in marketing, I can tell you that you could have posted here in such a way as to gather grass roots support. |
| No, I am the one who is offended. I am trying so hard to be... | Biking Viking Jul 14, 2002 10:14 PM | | ...the dick under the high horse in Passion.
I have no life - my entire existence revolves around this forum where I spend my time putting down people who a) rides slower than me or b) have different opinions than me.
How could you miss that?
BV (Disappointed) |
| ROFLMOL | Jed Jul 15, 2002 3:02 AM | | Not worth a reply. |
| Horse? Where? I've got no room for a horse... | Twilight Error® Jul 15, 2002 3:20 AM | | I was wondering where those piles of horsecrap were coming from, thanks for tipping me off. There is a difference between advertising and asking for opnions, that post crossed it. |
| GOOD! | martini Jul 15, 2002 6:16 AM | | I'll be supporting you NWO. Thanks for letting us know. The 'Passion Posse' may not like you treading on thier terrain, but hey, it IS a public forum after all.
Lighten up people, there are bigger fish to fry than this poor guy. I admire him for having the balls to even attempt this feat, 'bad' advertising skills or not. Like Dij said, we/you all helped him earlier, why not now? |
| "Official MTBR Response" | gregg Jul 16, 2002 9:59 AM | | Not really, just me wanting to say a few things.
First off, thanks for the Passionites for protecting what is theirs. (yes, perhaps a tad overzealous at times, but to me it is an indication of their devotion to MTBR.)
Second off, is it Spam? Yes. But I am willing to let this slide at this point. I have to agree with Opie, it's not so much the spam but the approach that is the issue.
To NWRider, I would say this: "I think it would help things if you used your name. Both when posting here and on your site. If you let people know who you are by name, I think they will be more willing to listen to what you have to say, and also would be less skeptical about sending you money. You can post as "NWrider" or whatever handle you want, but let people know who the person is behind the magazine. On your site, I find a list of contributers, but no where do I find who it is that IS iheartbikes.com. Looking at your site, why would I send $30 for a magazine I've never seen, read, or heard of and to somebody I don't even know their name?"
Just my opinion to help on the "grass roots marketing".
And I realize that you probably don't have the budget to advertise with MTBR right now, but I hope that if you eventually do; send me an email and we'd love to work something out.
Thanks everyone.
