TAHOE gathering - saturday ride comments.Spiff

Not worth calling this a "report", once all I remember is a blur of sweat, dust, high speed wind in my face, more sweat. Pehaps it is because I had so much fun riding in an awesome place with some really nice folks.

25 miles, 8 hours total (5 saddle time), 3,770 total accumulated climbing. If this is not an Epic ride, I dont dont wanna ride one (at least not in my current endurance level)

Ahhh, the climbing, the mountain's toll beating your legs and squeezing your lungs...

"You must come from a sea level place huh ?"

I heard from a hiker as he PASSED me while I try to breath through the thin air.

"See ya in the downhill !" I grasped.

More climbing, more bike pushing, some sandy downhills to chill out the sweat. The group stops (at this point, Jm, JFR, Suzy, Jeremiah and the Switchblade dude (Oh, sorry man...) and mumbles about how easy all that ride is and how we'd like to do that every weekend.

Due tolls paid, we hit Toads and it's all good. Suzy riding fast in front of me and I trying to keep the rubber side down over all those rocks...uh, a bad line a couple of miles below and I have a good soil sample in my jersey and legs, no blood donation. We keep going and I watch perplexed Eddy Rapido clearing a last rocky section in a hardtail as he joins the group stop.

More downhill, Suzy and Switchblade dude (sorry again man, btw, how's the shoulder ?) get the two next soil samples (is that an epic or what ?), but not before Susy clears a quite gnarly section that gave trouble to a lot of people (including me, who walked it) . A nice section of smooth hardpacked singletracks and we hit the final trail section, Spiff is dropped as everybody races deseperately towards the parking lot (what the urge for a cold beer doesnt do for you). Great ride.

Many thanks to Bigboulder for bringing all of this togheter, and to all of you I had the pleasure to ride with.

Wow, I'm ready for the next one !!!!

Gui

Pictures are few and far between, and I'm going to use the same Jilm's lame excuse (at least part of it). Too focused on the ride, too tired trying to catch up (I dont think Jilm used this one), sick of spending an awful lot of time to get that friggin big camera in and out of my saddle bag, oh well.

fp, I hope you are OK with that :/

Funny, it looks like a descent but it is uphill actually (at least that's what my legs told me).

I got a minor taste of Sierra riding last week..... and cruised the Downieville and Yuba outfitters.... got my juices flowing for some of that....

Glad you had a great time.... I heard the T-storms came up as I was leaving....

Group of 26 was quite a surprise to come across on that trail! Usually we have it all to our selves. Just gald we were able to motor through while you all were taking a break at Star Lake and hit Toadies well before the dust storm.
Wish someone got a pic of my soil sampling.wg

According to the observation gallery it was quite the wreck. I just got back from the doc and have a shoulder separation. The doc is going to consult with an orthopedic surgeon and decide what to do next.

Thanks for your pics. I'll post my pics a little later.

Sorry to hear that. hope you get better soon. It was great meeting you.

Ride with Finch Platte and you'll get all your soil samples taped for sure :)

Yeah, that was a good OTB for sureJFR

I saw the whole thing officer. Nasty, slow mo, OTB right onto the shoulder. OUCH.

Good meeting you, hope you heal fast.

...I'd trade the memory to get your old shoulder back. Let us know how it turns out. How's the wife with all that?
I'd do that trade too.wg
Jul 15, 2002 12:05 PM
as I sit here in a sling. Looks like I separtated the shoulder in two spots. Supposedly minor but got a good 6-8 weeks of recouperation. I'm not happy about that. The other half is more sympathetic than I deserve.
Next time...JFR
Jul 15, 2002 10:31 AM
Feel free to ask Jm or I to go back up and re-ride some of the "hard" sections for the camera... we'll be happy to oblige :)

I'm regretting it today, but a combinantion of fatigue and humility prevented me from offering. Okay, it was just fatigue.

I should have asked one of you guys. I missed some good action shots. Oh well, there will be always the next time.

Took my bike to the LBS today for some adjustments as the headset was kinda loose and put a good scratch in the fork steerer and the crankarms were creaking a bit. The guy just said "Dude ! those crankarms were completely loose !" whew...I'm just glad the steerer is okay, I freaked out yesterday night when I first checked it.
