All you passion folks...

So I am reading over my favorite discussion groups here at MTBR, as I do every day after I read my online news (drudgereport, bbc and cnn), and my eye was caught by one of the banners above. Most times it's just the same old banners of companies I know more than need to about anyway, and YES I do make my on-line purchases by going first through MTBR's site first and following the link.

OK back to the banner. It was a new pedal system, from the banner it looked like my old Beebops with a 2002 facelift, so I clicked on it.

Now I have a slew of pedals in my bike parts box in the shed: ATACs, Richey SPD knock-offs, Beebops, Frogs and even a set of flat pedals. I have yet to find the perfect pedal, so I figured a few minutes of my time researching this new pedal wouldn't hurt (I have also yet to throw out a set of pedals, no matter how worn out they are). Who knows, maybe I have stumbled on pedal Nirvana.

Checking out the product, it looked like the Bops cleat, which does poorly in my local mud. Pedal looks simple enough, maybe the pedal interface/cleat would work in my area. I was sitting here at my computer trying to talk myself into trying out a pair, hell I have tried almost all other pedals (minus the egg beaters, which I have a friend testing them out here and he has a few maintenance issues).

So la-da-da I cruise over to the ordering page, it's been a while since my last bike part purchase so what the hell. The price? 219 good old U.S. dollars! Holy cow, you have got to be kidding me! Are they mining the iron ore and smelting it down themselves? Are the spindles made up of an alloy consisting of Scandium, Titanium and space rock?

Now I love my bike, it would sleep in the bedroom with me and the wife instead of being parked in the living room IF the bedroom was on the 1st floor instead of the 3rd floor (townhouse, not a 3 story mansion). I love riding my bike, working on my bike, tweaking my bike and giving it a new, shiny happy part here and there, but +200 dollars for a set a pedals is too much.

Ok, my rant is done now, time for another cup of coffee.
It's simply supply and demand...kristian

That's the price the company is willing to supply them at. If it's not the price that people are willing to pay, you'll find them on blowout at Superslo in a few months.
