to figure out what a difference tire choice can make.

2002 24hrs. of Snowshoe. Muddy conditions seem to creep their way into Snowshoe. Well, this year they creeped in at the last moment, while last year they plain old took the place hostage 3 weeks prior!

My first lap on XC 2.1's, Conti's. 3 miles in, my bike seems to be about 10 pounds heavier and it ain't mud on the frame. It ain't my legs, I'm feeling pretty nice. The tires are caked. I figure, once I'm out of the mud and onto the first dry section, I'll shed that mud and humm back up to speed.....It's just not happening. To quote fellow rider #1, "That $hit's on there thicker than moose poop"! I suffer the next few miles and up the Cub Run climb. The legs are hurtin'.

Into the new section of IMBAlicious. Some slight downhill is welcome by the weary racer carrying around an extra brick or 3 or 4 (depending where I am on the course) strapped to his rims. I finish up the lap with the head down, shoulders buckled, a generally "out of it" look on my face. That was just plain work to get through the 1st lap.

Back to the pit knowing I gotta get rid if those tires. On with the Michelin's. 1.9's with the GREEN COMPOUND" I love the green stuff. It sheds mud like crazy. The only thing I don't like is they wash out like crazy too!! Ironically, they slide all over wet rocks and roots.

Lap 2(night). I feel like a gazelle!! I'm clearing stuff, flying up the climbs, sloshing and slugging through the rock gardens, hopping, darting, SPRINTING!!! I actually got wood!! (I was pretty excited). The difference was amazing. So, now I know. You can be sure what I used for lap 3!! And I confirmed my choice. Another joyous (yes, joyous at Snowshoe)lap. The Green stuff is dope!!

He rode 6HOP the last two years, won 2000, came second 2001 and they announced saturday that he won 24hrs of snowshoe, I think. Results are not posted on Snowshoe sight yet.

Good info on the tires, how many on your team? How did you do overall?
