| Two Views From Top Of The World | hfly Aug 8, 2002 7:57 PM | | This morning's plan: a trip to Grand Junction to run a few errands. This morning's diversion: a five mile climb by Bullit to Top Of The World Viewpoint. This morning's realization (the same as each and every other morning's realization): namely, I love this place. I really, really love this place.
Give away my portion of fame and fortune, but never deprive me of Moab, Lord -- this morning's prayer, in no way religous, but heartfelt nonetheless.
This first view is from the "tipsy-top", looking southwest over Onion Creek towards Fisher Mesa and the La Sals. |
| Fisher Towers From On High | hfly Aug 8, 2002 8:10 PM | | This was taken while looking north from virtually the same point as the previous picture, through the Onion Creek Narrows and Fisher Towers toward the River Corridor and Dome Plateau. The low sun projected an almost petroglyphic shadow onto the Wingate Cliff on the bottom right.
Done with deference to Stokey's signature silhouette. I've always admired his posts. :o)

| So... | Kitchenware Aug 8, 2002 8:33 PM | | Do you have a hard time 'going' on vacation? Does everything else just seem dull since you get to see such amazing scenery all the time?
I think where I live is amazing, but that place is 'other worldly'. Great shots.

| Jeeze...you can see the curvature of the Earth..... | Greyhound Aug 9, 2002 5:31 AM | | ...in that pic. Amazing beauty and coloring out there. I really appreciate these posts of the Southwest. Blows me away everytime. |
| Travel | hfly Aug 9, 2002 5:38 AM | | I still love to travel. Sure Moab has amazing scenery, but it hasn't cornered the market. There is good riding everywhere!
By expressing my love for my home terrain, I in no way mean to set it up haughtily upon some pedestal. I don't believe in superlatives. There is no best. Only good.
And let's face it. Colorado has Moab slam-dunk beat when it comes to mountains, aspen glades & endless singletrack!

| Great shots. Wouldn't have even noticed the silhouette | AK Ken Aug 8, 2002 9:53 PM | | if you hadn't mentioned it; it's just a tasteful signature as it is.
Is that your usual Grand Junction day? Haul the bike over 128 and stop for a little ride? SHEESH! Just get on the freeway like everyone else and stop torturing us!=) (been raining for 2 days here)
Good job.
