| Roadside assistance | hv18 Aug 9, 2002 11:19 AM | | Went on a ride this morning very hot, humid and two flats. Still a good ride though. Fixing the second flat another biker came by and asked if I was alright and had everything I needed. I though about everytime I have had a problem someone has come by and asked if I needed anything and really made me feel good about the group of people I share this sport with. Thanks. |
| cyclists are just cool people | PmbH Aug 9, 2002 11:45 AM | | I love that phenomenon.. One time a passing cyclist loaned me a chain tool to get me back on the trail, and I've totally felt the same as you ever since.
Couple rides back, I found two hikers almost 5 miles out with NO WATER at all. The girl was dehydrated and dizzy, and her boyfriend was useless. When I first rode up to them, I got the impression they were anti-mountian-bike-hikers (like so many hikers can be). Before I could offer any help, they questioned the legality of my being on the trail. After showing them a map with the bike-legal designation, I let her finish my bottle of water. Then filled it from my Camelbak again and gave it to her. Told her to keep it, 'cos she'd need it for the hike out of there.
They were surprised at my generousity. Hopefully that changed their opinions of mountain bikers! |
| Believe it or not... | MRfire - 1 Aug 9, 2002 11:51 AM | | I stopped for a fellow joe walking his Huffy down the trail with a look of anguish on his face. "What's the problem" I say. "Bikes dead, my rear gear thingy went in my rim and ripped it clear off along with my chain" he says. "Don't you have a tool?" I ask. "What's a tool?" he responds. I then proceed to whip out my alien and start working away. Five minutes later he has a single speed to ride the remaining eight miles of trail. After noting to him the importance of tools, patch kits and pumps, I was off into the woods with a radiant glow of fulfillment.
It's not only pleasing to receive help, but pleasing to give help.
Yes, I'm a nice guy...sometimes. |
