Can you guys tell me if there's a bus or something going from Denver to Moab during Oct.If not, anything from Grand Junction to Moab at that time.I arrive in Denver Oct.11th and would like to get to Moab that day.My flight arrives at 4:30pm.I'll fly to Grand Junction if I have to.
Ex Denverite, but that's irrelevantAK Ken

First, Denver International Airport is a ways east of Denver and may actually be in Kansas. So even if your plane lands on time and your luggage arrives on the same flight as you and the bus picks you up right at the terminal you're still not getting to Moab till tomorrow (minimum 6-7 hours to Moab under ideal driving conditions, I'd guess).

You can fly from Denver to Moab on a commuter airline whose name escapes me at the moment, but this should be fairly easy for you to find out. Follow similar channels to the ones that got you your ticket to Denver, and say you really want to end up somewhere else, and see what happens.

You can get to Grand Junction. . .JS5280

via Greyhound, but it doesn't look like they go to Moab. I've never heard of a shuttle service to that area (from Denver or GJ), but that doesn't mean there isn't one. That is the weekend of the 24 hours of Moab so I'd post at Grannygear.com and see if someone would be willing to pick you up or may be driving from DIA anyways. Offer to pay/split for gas and you'll probably get an offer. BTW if you're not doing the 24 hours of Moab, you're still okay. That is well out of town and the best riding is still available.

Ken is correct, it's about 6-7 hours to Moab from DIA barring any slow downs and bending the speed limit a little. At that time of night, I'd recommend going via US-191 and not the scenic US-128, US-128 is twisty, has animals, including cows, surprise curves, and a turn off that is easy to miss, especially at night. Worth the drive though during the day and you're not in a hurry.
It's all coming back to meAK Ken

It's Great Lakes Aviation that flies between Denver/Grand Junction/Moab/Page/Phoenix. At least they did last spring.

Also, go to www.moab-utah.com and see EVERYTHING you could POSSIBLY want to know. They show a couple of shuttle services, but I didn't go to the individual sites so I'm not sure if they will apply, but hey...free advice is always worth what you pay for it, right?

Ken
Won't help you, but here's schedule service SLC to Moab. . .JS5280

I'm currently watching Denver's WB2 News at 9 (although it's on at SEVEN here!), and we're corresponding across thousands of miles, and presumably YOU'RE in Denver, and gee--it's just too much sometimes. I see that it's still 73 degrees there! I think we're all done with 70s for the year. May hit 60 again, but don't hold your breath.

Kinda lost track--you got laid off, went to Europe, are back, any new employment looming on your horizon?

Ken
Nope, that's why I'm. . .JS5280

posting on a Saturday instead of out drinking my unemployment check ;-) I was out earlier today to watch the Rockies and then the Buffs so that's why I'm home on a Saturday night. I'm surprise you remember so much about me, I don't post as much here as I do on RoadBikereview. Do you hang out at RBR as well? It's been a great summer, like being a kid on summer break again. Got to get back to work eventually though. Still, I can job hunt in Fruita and Moab via the web in the evenings. I'll be back out once it cools down there :-) Might be time to go back for an MBA if the job situation doesn't pan out.

Hope you enjoyed your summer up there. AK is beautiful. I visited Anchorage for a week in June a number of years ago. My girlfriend at the time flew for South Central Air from about March to Oct. Not quite into the really cold/dark time of the year. Don't think I'd like that much. I love the sun here in Denver. Watcha watching WB2 for? The hot weather babes? (i.e. Angie and Casey) ;-)
BWAAAAHAHAHA,, I almost mentioned the weather babesAK Ken

Casey is on right now, but I watch Angie in the mornings. She's gotta lose those striped pants she wore yesterday, though. Just a little TOO retro. And heck, Ernie Bjorkman was there when we lived there!

And what's up with Oktoberfest in early September, anyway? Things have changed, I guess. When I lived in Denver what is now LoDo was SkidRow!

And seeing the SNIAGRAB commercial brings back some memories!

My in-laws still live in Denver, and we don't get any Alaskan channels on the dish, so we watch that news. I get a kick out of the Breckenridge cam, too, since that's where we lived when we moved here.

Can't quite get into the L.A. Californiacool Johnny Mountain blow dry kinda news team.

I've never been to Road Bike Review, but I recall some of your posts from this spring.

What kinda work ya wanna do?

It's been a beautiful summer here, but it's definitley on the downswing. We'll hit Moab in Oct/Nov, then it's back for the long cold dark time.

Ken
That's funny. . .JS5280

. . .you're still watching the Denver news. I kind of fell into WB2 in the mornings because it was enjoyable to watch, they get through quickly the "here's who dead" and "politician du jour says all our problems will be fixed if you just send us more money." Tell me about where the $hitty traffic is, the great weather, and some fun events or a cool new restuarant, and I'm happy. Of course seeing Angie or Casey every 10 minutes or so isn't bad either and it's funny to watch them flirt with Tom. Dan can be pretty funny too at times. I vote Angie wears more low cut tops, she's got some great curves on her :-) I'd love to see her or Casey in person one of these days. Lastly, if I want serious news I'll pick up The Onion :-)

I'm in the tech business, mostly new system implementation. Typical job title would be a Systems Analyst. There are few jobs out there, I find about 3-5 a week that match my skills, but there's a ton of systems analysts out there too. Since most companies aren't spending $100k+ on new computer systems and services in this economy, the pickings are slim overall.

LoDo skid row? Okay, with the exceptions of Chapultepec and Mori's Sushi, you're right back before the mid-90's. Now it's the happening place. Beaucoup lofts, nightclubs, swanky restuarants, and parking nightmares. I've been here 13 years now, so I've seen some changes. I love Colorado, but one day the traffic and crowds will drive me to some mountain town. I'm looking now (Durango or Steamboat would be ideal) but it's hard to find decent jobs there that will allow to buy a home and save a little for retirement.

Keep me posted on if you head down this way. I remember you and I believe your daughter (?) went down to Fruita earlier this year. I have family in Grand Junction, so I get out there frequently. Hard to say if I'll have a job or not by Nov. so, if not, it would be great to get together. I always enjoy your posts, your perspective of the world and nature, and your incredible pictures. Going to head to bed here soon. Nursing a bum leg, tucked my front wheel and went over the bars last Friday and bruised my right leg badly. Still don't have full motion and can't ride :-( but it's getting better. Have a good night!
No, she just LOOKS like my daughterAK Ken

but she's my wife. Really, officer.

We were in Phoenix/Moab/Denver/Loveland in March. Did the White Rim in Canyonlands with some old park service buds. Sort of the Over the Hill Gang goes biking, complete with not one, not two, but THREE sag wagons and a 12 foot enclosed trailer. And not a single person ever used a sag wagon except to haul gear, which surprised me since the average age on our trip was like a hundred and four--well, 54 anyway, I'll bet. We had enough Prep H and DentuCreme to open a pharmacy, and oh, the plugged up prostate stories! Anyway...

Tough bidness to be in now, eh? I have no contacts in any tech joints, so I'm no help either. Sure like the western slope better than the front range for quality of life, though, if you can make a living at all. Even in job shortages, though, all it takes is ONE, right? And maybe you have crossover skills that you don't even recognize; people skills, human resources person for a big ski area, uh, I don't know. Computer guru for a water and sewer system, power plant, whatever.

Or maybe bike tours, clinics on how to fall, or how NOT to fall, something like that. Sounds like quite the trip over the bars; hope you're a hundred per cent again soon.

I'm sure we'll visit the folks in Denver on our trip, or if you get to GJ it's a short hop to Moab. Maybe we'll hook up one way or the other.

Good luck.

Ken
