Sram/Shimano Compatability Question....(3 posts)

Sram/Shimano Compatability Question....EndoXc
Sep 7, 2002 10:14 AM
OK, so I'm fed up with Shimano and there shifting in the rear, so I'm switching from XTR to Sram X.0...now I need some help...can I still run my XTR V-Levers with the X.O shifters? and the X.0 shifter will work on my XTR front deraileur, correct? any other things I would have to change on the bike to make the switch? Thanks a lot!
don't know about the lever issue, but the F derailer is fineJm

because the only difference between front shimano shifting and front sram shifting is that sram is micro-ajust, it is indexed but has about 9 "detents" allowing you to fine tune the chain to keep it from rubbing the derailer. So you can run any derailer, however I feel that front shifting is somewhere where sram has shimano beat all over the place, the micro ajust makes sense, and srams own front derailer is a very good design, i have a brand new one but can't run it on my current bike.

The levers should work just fine with your new shifters, though you'll lose some bar space. This is my one beef with SRAM - the newer Shorty shifters are even longer than those of a few years ago. I end up cutting all my grips, and I'm not even running bar ends. And this is with an Easton EC70 bar, which is 23".

Sram shifting an XTR front is wonderful, though. I have to echo the previous poster's sentiments about micro-adjust - I can use all 9 cogs in the middle ring with no rub, and 7 of 9 in the big or small ring, thanks to the micro-adjust.
