| thats not a DH bike | Jm Sep 7, 2002 11:32 AM | | check out the front derailer, 6" boxxer race, lack of chainguide. It's for freeriding, although its a dead simple design, not worth what they want for it. |

LOL I guess it's hard not to copy someone these days, but I'd rather buy the Bullit or Joker, at least we know they are proven. |

| Last pic of Spec. EPIC | banjo Sep 7, 2002 10:50 AM | | http://gallery.consumerreview.com/webcrossing/images/pbpic43748.jpg As you can see in the pic, this EPIC is a "marathon" model. The 03 enduro bikes are in the background, better start saving up! |
| Re: Spec. EPIC... | Mellow Yellow Sep 7, 2002 10:56 AM | | As cool as that frame is, I have serious doubts that it would work well up here in the Pacific Northwest. Our mud is like no other. That design is asking the shock to act as your seat stay as well. Plus there is so much stuff always flying around your wheel. To have your shock so close to your wheel doesn't seem right to me.

| well, it only has 90mm of travel... | banjo Sep 7, 2002 11:03 AM | | in the rear so I guess any bike similar to the EPIC was not meant for the Pacific Northwest. Personally, I agree with your comment about "so much stuff always flying around your wheel" despite what Specialized says. I'm a spec fan, but I'll wait to see what the reviews say. |
| From what I've read.... | skiahh* Sep 7, 2002 8:30 PM | | The shock arm is NOT a structural member of that set up. And 90mm = about 3 1/2" if I did my math right. I know lots of people who only have that much travel. In fact, I had my Enduro set to the 3.8" travel position almost all the time riding up there. Now... if you're gonna toss yourself off tall things then I agree - this isn't the bike for you. But if you just like riding trails - PNW mud and all, well - I'd give it a shot!

| 03 RM SLAYER w/ 03 Marz Z1 | banjo Sep 7, 2002 11:23 AM | | http://gallery.consumerreview.com/webcrossing/images/pbpic43846.jpg Is that an air shock I see on a FR bike?? |
| Actually it is not an air sprung fork | Jeff_from_boulder Sep 7, 2002 9:50 PM | | Actually it is the new Marzocchi Z-1 Freeride. They are coil/oil shocks with a five position ECC. Should be very cool I think. Also will be very expensive to get one, ~$600. (Expensive since I own an '02 Z-1 FR) Can anybody tell I want one? |
| He wasn't talking about the fork...that's why he said SHOCK | Pat T.® Sep 8, 2002 10:22 AM | | It HAS an air sprung shock. :o) |
| Actually it could be...... | Ventanarama Sep 8, 2002 6:51 PM | | Marzocchi is doing a 5" travel Z1 air fork this year called the SL. Looks like the FR, but air instead of coil.

| 03 XTR on bike | banjo Sep 4, 2002 1:00 PM | | http://gallery.consumerreview.com/webcrossing/images/pbpic43845.jpg You can see a fully equiped 03 XTR spec on the Fuel 100 OCLV pic, but heres another one. This is a pic of some guy shifting "down" using the brake lever. |
| Has any one had a chance to try... | KRob Sep 7, 2002 9:31 PM | | the 03 XTR shifters(Besides the guy in the picture)? Since I read about those I've been trying it on my bike and it feels kind of awkward. It's hard to get much pressure on the "up" shift unless your levers are pointed down quite a bit. Maybe not much pressure is required? Can a shift be made with one finger, or does it take all four? In which case, that pretty much leaves you with not much holding onto the bar. Cool idea, I'd just like to see for myself how they work.
BTW, pushing up and down on MY brake levers has yet to effect a shift. |
