| Looking for Riding Partners in Phoenix | JoshMag Oct 6, 2002 1:42 PM | | Looking for Phoenix area riding partner(s) to get better in general and have a good time riding. I'm 28 years old, ride a Santa Cruz Bullit. I ride about 3 times a week, and usually at South Mountain. I usually ride National and sometimes Classic. In Flag--Little Bear, Sunset, Rocky Ridge. In Globe--six shooter. I like both techinial climbs and descents and fast single track. I'd like to get in with a crew that does regularly scheduled rides, is aggressive about getting better, and just loves getting out on the bike. Thanks. |
| I should be trailing you to get better | pedalAZ Oct 6, 2002 5:44 PM | | I ride about 2x weekly; 3x in a god week. A night ride and usually just one weekend ride. Sometimes National (never up it - I prefer Mormon Loop up!). I try to get trail diversity. Hawes, Pima & Dynamite, White Tanks, Trail 100, Estrella, Sedona, Prescott, . . . My regular ride group is probably a little more XC oriented than what you prefer. However, there are some regular Phx Passionites on the board whose ride preferences should match up well. |

| Fit | TrailRidz Oct 7, 2002 8:27 AM | | You would be welcome to join us. We ride National and Papago a lot so if you want technical, drops, and some jumps we hit it all. My buddy rides a Bullit, me an RFX. There are a few of us and we are out at least 3 or 4 times a week. |

I live in North Scottsdale, but work down in Chandler. I'm currently bringing the bike to work on either Tues or Thurs for a South Mountain ride, which lets me get 4 days a week in (including Wed/Sat/Sun). If you can ride at 5pm on either Tues or Thurs, on a regular basis, I'd be glad to hook up with you at South Mountain.
My Wednesday ride is almost always my "local loop", which is in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve around Taliesan.
Saturday and Sunday, I hook up with one of three different riding groups all over the valley. Aside from Estrella, I've ridden most of what Phoenix has to offer. My favorite loop is probably Trail 8, 1A, and 220 over in the North Phoenix preserve. Great single track, very few other people (hikers or bikers) to contend with, and not as death defying as National. It's still a great technical loop, especially if you like to climb the steep stuff.
Saturday 4 of us rode up Mormon, then up National to Telegraph. We walked our XC bikes down Telegraph, and then took Desert Classic back. That's a good, long, tough ride, which I'd not done before, but was on my list. I'll give a post on that later, as I was able to provide some amusement near the end of the ride.

PS- I'm 34, ride a new Titus Racer-X, and am definitely trying to get better. With the cool weather recently it's been great to try some of the technical obstacles multiple times, without the fear of cooking to death if you stop for 2 seconds. |
| I don't live in Phoenix but......................... | SunDog Oct 7, 2002 10:57 AM | | I wouldn't mind joining you for a Six Shooter trip next time your going that way.
Also we have some pretty spiffy riding down here in Tucson that'll put that Bullit through the test.
