A few of us got together on Saturday to do a 20 mile trail at Ramapo Mountain (New Jersey). Anthony and Tom had done it before, Sandra, me and Darwin were virgins on this trail. I think I should let Anthony do the complete ride report but it was an adventure.......

Ramapo Mt. is a beautiful area and the ride we did is a combination of a few different trails. Terrain is pretty rocky with quite a few sections where you have to carry your bike. Some nice views and great techinical downhill makes this trail a great weekend workout. The 18 mile trail turned into 20 since we got lost a few times and had to improvise after some major mechanical trouble. Anthony had to turn his nice Titus into a single speed after getting a piece of wood stuck in the rear wheel and bending the derailleur. Bad luck since he only had seven rides on the bike. The ride turned into a seven hour adventure and we were all pretty hungry when we got back to the car. Sandra's arm went numb for half an hour after a viscous sting from a wasp but she recovered nicely. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun. Perhaps Anthony can provide us with a more detailed ride report? You can find pictures at the link below. All photos from this weekend are in the Ramapo Mountain folder.

This park is huge. This was my first visit. people in the parking lot told me to be careful and not get lost. If I wasnt with this group I may have.

The terrain is VERY technical in many places. I bent a brake lever, scratched the hell out of my cranks, tore my seat and bashed my pedals numerous times. Other than the lever, my bike FEELS the same. There is alot of fun stuff to hit. There are rocks everywhere. I think the long ride we put in provided me with more rock garden conditioning for faster DH times.

I had a great time, highly reccomend this place.

NOTE: bring lots of water, some tools, a spare tube, some food, a gas grill, and an instant camp fire, maybe gps too. lol

Yeah, great ride. Those that hadn't ridden there before did a great job considering this is pretty tech lil loop (note sarcasm on the lil part).

It was great to meet Colin whom we picked up less than 1/3 of the way through. I'm sure he had no idea what he was really in for though. hehe he.

It's too bad about my mechanicals, but that's how it goes sometimes. I really wish it hadn't so I could've hit more of the fun downhill sections (the ones we didn't miss due to my wrong turn especially). Oh well. The weather was fantastic and the group couldn't have been better. Nice photos Hawk. One of these days I'll actually leave the house with a camera.

I'm horrible at ride reports, so I'll just end it here.

Ride hard, ride long.

We were pretty tired when we ggot home and I also had to return the car and get some food. I can only last so long on powerbars.....Will probably screw around a bit tomorrow in Central Park and go to the gym. When do you think you will have your bike ready?
