| Interbike crazies? | trekker Oct 7, 2002 8:03 PM | | Sitting aallllll alone and restless at my computer this evening, I can't help but think of all my friends at Interbike right now. Last year I made the trip, this time it was Responsible Year. A quirky theme emerged in one of my discussions a while back...injuries at the Outdoor Demo. I saw one guy land on his head, another little guy flip several times off an Ellsworth Joker. When you end up on trails that resemble chipped concrete, 110 degree heat and the eager-beavers going sproing on their fantasy bike..insurance must be pretty steep for Interbike. I invite stories of witnessed accidents from the Demo? |
| Well, it was only about 80 degrees this year.... | KRob Oct 7, 2002 10:16 PM | | so maybe that's why I didn't see any crashes. However all the near misses I saw were with people riding, wheelying, or doing stoppies through the demo area just getting out to the trails. One guy about T-boned a dog coming down the paved road back down to the park. It was crowded.
I have an aversion to crashing in front of people. I'd rather look like a sensible dweeb and walk a section I might normally try, than bail off on somebody elses $3000 bike in front a bunch of my peers who I secretly fear are all better riders than me anyway. I did just about tip over a whole row of bikes at the Marin tent when I couldn't get my foot out quite fast enough from a not-so-compatible SPD copy pedal while returning one of their demos.
I didn't go down, nor did the bikes, so I guess that doesn't count. |
