Thanks for the forking advice!Doc

Ok, so I finally decided on a fork. However, it was one that was not on the original list. I ended up with an '02 boxxer- I got a very nice deal on it and just couldn't pass it up. Soooo... here's what the bike will look like when all the parts get here (I ordered the last of them yesterday).

1998 Yeti Lawwill-6 (OK, it's an old frame, but I love that design!)
2002 Boxxer
Answer Pro-Taper bar
Yeti lock on grips
XT Shifters, Front E-type Der, Rear Der, and BB.
Azonic Shorty Stem
Hayes DH hydrolic brakes (6" rear w/ floating arm, 8" up front)
CK headset (red)
Race Face next cranks, rings, and bash gaurd
Easton Cully flats
CK 20mm through axle front hub (red)
Mavic D321 and D521 rims (front and back respectively)
Ringle 15mm through axle rear hub (Lawwill specific)
Thomson 12degree post
Tioga Multi-controal 2 saddle
Michelin Wildgripper comp 32 soft tires (2.8"!)
generic tubes

It'll be about a week until I get all of the pieces to build this monster, but I'll post pics when I do- until then you can drool over these pics of the most beautiful front hub ever....
The build looks good except for...kristian

...the cranks. Why are you putting an XC race crank on an otherwise very DH build?
Sorry, I neglected to mention the Bash Gaurd...Doc

Penelope (at Cambriabike.com) and I spent ALL DAY yesterday trying to find a BB that would fit my bike and still allow me to use my E-type front deraileur- The only one we could find was made by shimano (I REALLY don't like to be TOLD which cranks to use, thus I don't like shimano BB's) Anyway, I had to use the XT e-type, but they did have some non-splined (taper lock) BB's that let me use non-shimano cranks.

Long story short- I got those cranks for like $150 or something, I couldn't find anything else in sq taper that I liked better for less cash. Besides, I'll be doing a lot of flat land riding to get to the DH runs here in Iowa. Once I make my move out west though, expect to see the Yeti chain guide go back on and mabye a hussefelt 38 tooth ring up front. (That was my original plan before we discovered that the Race Face SRX bb that I planned on buying really didn't fit a 73 mm shell like it said it would).

And yes, I'm replacing the big ring with a race face bash gaurd.
There won't be any warranty on those cranks....CraigH

if you have any problems. RF lists the Next cranks for XC only.

There are other companies that make cranks that fit Shimano BBs now. There was a thread about that over in drivetrain about a week ago.
Found the RF warranty page that says that....CraigH

(they updated their site and moved info around)

"*Abusive: Extreme riding and/or racing is not abusive, as long as you have purchased the correct model component. If you ride DH, DS, BMX (freestyle, dirt jumping), Trials, or are an aggressive ‘Freerider' you are responsible to choose our ‘Downhill & Big Impact' products. Riding components that were not designed or tested for this type of riding will void the warranty."
Are you a gear freak?radair

If so, you should take up rock climbing - more cool gadgets than you can imagine. I hope I don't sound condescending - I really enjoy fine hardware. It just seems that you may be obsessing over parts a bit.

Where will you ride such a fine rig in Iowa?
Yes.Doc

I love to obsess over the smallest details. Why? I don't know. I'm just a quasi-perfectionist.

Where will I be riding it? (you ever hear that joke about where a 500lb bear sleeps?) Anywhere I want to.

Seriously, I've got some nice gypsum quaries by my place, and some worthy (but short) DH runs nearby. There's also a local winter ski hill that opens in the summer for bikes. (chair lift and everything), it's about 40 minutes away.

Mostly, I built it up as a promise to myself that a move to either Colorado or Washington/Oregon is near.
That hub would fit on a Mac truck!!Mellow Yellow

Mellow Yellow (just jealous because I don't have one)
Sorry,Doc

Actually, I'm sorry I couldn't magnify it enough for you to see the grains of metal... I'm freakish like that.

I'm beyond excited about finally getting all the parts together. Not everything is brand new, actually about 40% of the bike is used- but it'll be a great trail bike.
