| Laptops w/ DVDs (completely off topic) | Fat-tire Oct 8, 2002 9:39 AM | | Anybody have a laptop with a DVD player?
Just got one, and there seems to be a bit of a delay between the audio and video. Anybody know what might be happenening, or if there is a fix for this? |
| if it's not a Mac... return it buy a Mac... | Allroy Oct 8, 2002 9:43 AM | | and you'll be fine.
seriously... try a different screen size/resolution, it may be video card/CPU can't handle full screen playback?
don't know if that would affect a/v delay though? |

| Software "feature" | ScottN Oct 8, 2002 9:53 AM | | Sometimes there's a problem with the DVD decoder software - audio and video don't sync. Try Allroy's suggestion to reduce the overhead for the system and see if that fixes it. If not, you might be able to download and install another DVD decoder and see if it works better.

| re: Laptops w/ DVDs (completely off topic) | Jisch Oct 8, 2002 10:00 AM | | My Laptop has a DVD player in it. It doesn't work very well. Seems that the smallest bump causes skips or the DVD to completely stop working. I have two different decoders and there is a big difference in the performance of them.

| Which decoder would you recommend... | Fat-tire Oct 8, 2002 10:10 AM | | and are there any free ones out there?
Bought one yesterday for like $20 after not being able to find the one Real Network told me to down load. But obviously it's useless. |
| Compaq one works best.. | Jisch Oct 8, 2002 10:22 AM | | The one that came on my Compaq laptop is the one that works the best. I just had my laptop re-imaged last week. It seems that my IT dept wiped off both the DVD decoders I had. Hmmm didn't notice that 'til just now. Not much help...

| mine came with more than one | sugarloaf Oct 8, 2002 12:10 PM | | I don't know if you've checked yet, but you might have another player stashed away in your system somewhere. Other than that, maybe the company that wrote the software has a patch for the problem that you can download. |
