| Fell asleep watching World Cup XC at Les Gets....*yawn*. | Locoman Nov 8, 2002 7:36 AM | | First my disclaimer: The competitors are true athletes, and ride harder than I could ever hope to.
BUT.. I could not believe how freaking lame the course was! It looked worse than riding on a sad golf course. Rolling grass, a little mud and even concrete!!! What's up with having part of the course on concrete?
Personally, for me the sport is about enjoying nature at it's finest. To explore while pushing myself on the challenging stuff -zipping around on singletrack. I can't get enough of that. ...but watching the race..yikes...it was so sterile. I guess racing is not for me. |

| And what about Mountaincross?! | Paul B Nov 8, 2002 8:34 AM | | Decidedly mixed feelings about 4x mountaincross racing after watching OLN last night. It's exciting, yeah, but it's also about as far away from "normal" mountain biking as trials or CX. And it's so short!
(Yeah, yeah: the food is terrible and the portions are so small...)
I guess it's medium-cool to watch them handle their bikes, but it's also sort of dull to watch them honk on the gears for two minutes.
The DH racing in Vermont was wicked cool though. That super-technical section near the end -- the "yard sale" or whatever -- looked amazingly hard on TV. Can't begin to imagine hitting that section at speed.

| I think... | Jonesy Nov 8, 2002 8:55 AM | | the courses are setup that way for optimal spectating and TV coverage. They keep the courses as close to the ski area as possible since thats where the people and tv cameras are. Somehow, they are trying to make XC racing exciting for tv, but I dont think it works. XC is a participant sport, not spectator!! |
| Most sports are participant based | EricTheRed Nov 8, 2002 3:00 PM | | Almost are sports are more fun to participate in than watch. Golf is the only exception where its just as frustrating to play as it is to watch =-P -e |
| Shoulda stayed up for the DH and 4X, pops | Skitz02 Nov 8, 2002 3:42 PM | | they also had the Norba Mt Snow w/ infamous Yardsale section right after. MTB XC is not really telegenic unless you are a racer yourself. imo |
