| Friday Kettle Hookie Ride Report | LakeRaven Nov 9, 2002 9:56 AM | | The passion that drives us to the trails brought several of us together to ride the John Muir Trails at Southern Kettle Morraine State Forest on Friday afternoon. We shead the responsibilities of work and gave priority to the voices in our heads that whisper to us about singletrack. Gadfly, wb, Scott, Tim, Bethany and I enjoyed a couple of sweet laps around the dirt track that most of us just call 'kettle'. The parking lot was pretty busy for a weekday and I like the fact that others hear the same voices telling them to ride instead of work on a beautifull Friday afternoon. I'm finding that I am cherishing every ride at the end of this season. A season that has brought me so much joy in the saddle. A season free from advocacy and bike patrol volunteerism. A season with a priority on riding and riding alot. A season of many gatherings and numerous trips to both familiar and brand new riding destinations. A season that has brought Bethany and I improved health, happiness and tranquility. This month we blocked out 12 days to drive out west to camp and ride where we hope to move some day soon. The week of thanksgiving we will head out to New Mexico and it looks like Tucson will be our furthest westward destination. When we return to Chicago from that trip we'll be reduced to riding the trainer or spin class to get our bike fix. I'm allready thinking about a Berryman Gathering for the last weekend in March and looking for suggestions for a Southern Midwest destination for an Easter Gathering. Here's to playing Hookie from work and riding. Here's to going out to play more often. Cheers! |
| late as usual | Gadfly Nov 11, 2002 1:45 PM | | Hey, somebody has to ride sweep.
Thanks for posting the idea.
I managed to get out again on Saturday and ride a dozen miles at my local forest preserve -- mostly double-track, but some sections of singletrack thrown in. |
