| FL 50 Mile Tour | true Nov 9, 2002 1:11 PM | | Over the last two years, a group of Gainesville, FL area riders has been able to build almost twenty miles of new singletrack in the San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. Our efforts to build new trail in cooperation with horse riders and hikers has become a model for the state of Florida park system. To celebrate our success, we're hosting a 50 mile mountain bike tour through one of north Florida's most diverse ecological and geological preserves, the San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. The Tour de Felasco will be on 11 January, 2003, starting at 8am.
The Tour is NOT a race, but rather a challenging series of trails opened specially for the event that will test your bike skills and endurance with rolling hills, short climbs, sinkholes, hydric hammock and prairie. Participants will face all of the challenges that North Florida riders have come to expect from the San Felasco trails, but on a truly epic proportion. You'll be able to ride a full 50 miles without crossing a single paved road: approximately 20 miles of singletrack, 15 miles of doubletrack, and 15 miles of horse and hiking trail. The doubletrack, horse, and hiking trails will only be avalable for biking on the day of the event. Experience areas of the park open to bikes only for the Tour, while supporting the our efforts to improve this magnificent trail system.
The Tour will provide a light breakfast, sag stops every 15 miles, and a lunch. Registration will cost $30 and includes a tour t-shirt. All money raised by the tour goes directly back into trail support and park improvements. Be prepared for rolling hills, long distances, creek crossings, and log bridges. Bail-out points will be available throughout the Tour; participants who want a shorter tour will be able to exit after lunch for a 30 mile ride.
For more information or for a registration form, visit www.sanfelasco.net/tour or write to us at tour@sanfelasco.net. The tour is limited to the first 300 registrants. |
