TRAIL CLOSURES IN CROOK COUNTY ILLINOIS(13 posts)

TRAIL CLOSURES IN CROOK COUNTY ILLINOISPissin Mad
Nov 9, 2002 4:03 PM
I just got back from a ride in Palos, my reward, seeing red trail closed signs all over the frickin place. What's going on? There are hundreds of riders out there all packed on to existing trails, the dumb-asses in the county refuse to allow additional trails and keep closing the existing ones. I'm so pissed I don't know what to do. Try to talk to the forest preserve politicians, might as well talk to the frickin trees.

The FPD is pissed about CAMBr's latest political dealings. At their next meeting, the FPD will use it as a bargaining tool. Stop with the members calling the commisioners and we'll give you your trails back. Call your commisioner and talk to them, POLITELY. You'd be surprised how bike friendly some are. I headed over to Cemetery Hill today to find the red markers too. They said its a liability issue, guess they feel safer if we get hit by cars doing 60 down a two lane road with not much of a shoulder.

...The times that I'v written Strogers office to complain about dirt bikes and quads in the FP areas down near me they'v fallen on deaf ears.

What are CAMB'rs latest political dealings? Obviosly They'v had an adverse effect. When is the next meeting? We're going to have to deal with the county people diplomaticly or we're never going to get those trails back.

Liability issues??? Geez, there's all kinds of places to break your neck out there on trails that are still open. Gotta go!..more soccer!

I give Cambr a lot of credit for trying. I for one don't have the patience. I'll select my illegal trails carefully & hope I wont be caught. Reckless? Perhaps...but I'm not going to give up my trails that I don't abuse because of politians that have their heads buried so far up their arses they can't breath. Even if they let us build more trails, they'll just close others. CAMBR! DON'T ASSIST IN THE CLOSURE OF ANY MORE TRAILS AS A MEANS OF BARTERING FOR NEW TRAILS. The county doesn't keep their word. Their all crooks.
Politians aren't making the decisions...lawless

...It's the local DICTATORS who were appointed by politians (elected officials)that are making the rules.

We need to address these officials with a languge that they'l understand... Who can we bribe? Whose campaign fund can CAMBr contribute to?...money talks!

We need to find an ally on the inside.
Good luck....Dirtsurfer

Environmentalists have all the money, more than most. They are the ones that want us and all users off the land. It's going to get dirty, lawsuits are coming.

I have to agree with you. The CAMBR guys are definately great. They have played by the rules, made agreements, even closed many trails, all to get additional quality trails. The result, the county now says there was no such agreement, has turned deaf, dumb and blind.

Coot County has no money, well, what's with the new video cameras and the shiney new 4x4's? I've seen that pain in the ass cop out there intimadating bike riders, while doing nothing about the kids drinking beer 20 feet away. IF THESE TRAILS ARE CLOSED AND THE TAXPAYERS ARE FURTHER ABUSED, I'm sure there will be a price to be paid and maybe it will be the superintendant hide nailed to the wall as well as the skinny ass treecop skin. Both need to go and go now! I'm sick of this crap!!!

The bike groups have worked diplomatically for the last two years. Attending meetings as infrequent as they are. Walked the trails with the powers to be only to have to wait months for any response or results. How many times do you need to call someone to get a response. Calls are never returned, messages are never returned. Months later a pathetic response, maybe. Playing by the rules has gotten us nowhere. Next step, calling commissioners. Hey, we got a response. I guess Joey can answer the phone when his "bosses" call. But as taxpayers, WE ARE HIS BOSS TOO! Next step, call the Trib, Times and suburban papers. This Devious needs to go!
Media Attention....Dirt Pilot

...I was thinking the same thing about geting the media involved. I'm wondering what we can do to give them an interesting story... without getting thrown in jail.
Investigative Reporter Stuff...Steve-O

The big three networks and Fox all have investigative reporters for the local news (ie - Pam Zekman - CBS, Lisa Parker - NBC, etc..). It seems if CAMBr could try and get one of these reporters on the story then something might come of it.

The tough part is to get the public to understand the MTBer's side of things. IMHO, The non-biking public still sees mountain bikes as kin to motocross bikes.
Yup, that's the problem...Dirt Pilot

...We're a relativily small group and the general public either coludn't care less or has us lumped in with the motorized cult, dirt people get no respect.

I'm just friggin furious, they closed Cemitary hill this week. What's next??

Hope you enjoyed Levi, I'l have to give Ricky a call tomorrow to get the story.
