| Fall in CT (no action shots) | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:04 AM | | Solo ride today, I guess most of my buds have decided that MTB is over until spring. It was 60 degrees, mostly cloudy, lotsa wind today. A really nice day for a ride.
First a gratuitous shot of my bike... |
| Trails = Rocks... | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:05 AM | | Kind of a mideval look: |
| More rocks. | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:07 AM | | Of course these are all hills, which are STIL... |
| More rocks again... | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:09 AM | | We're past real color, mostly light browns and some weak yellow.. |
| Will it ever end? | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:10 AM | | This is a really tricky up. Its probably a 50/50 shot for me... |
| Nope, more rocks. | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:12 AM | | This is the start of a ridge of basalt that runs North/South through Connecticut. Luckily it only sticks out at the very top of this ride. Basalt is not fun to ride on, its very square and gets slippery easily. |
| Even more... | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:14 AM | | Unbelievable how easy this looks on the screen, in person - its a pucker point... |
| Two more... | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:17 AM | | We don't get too many views like you guys out west get. I'll bet this ride never gets above 1000 feet. This is as close as it gets... When a few more leaves drop we'll be able to see a hill on the other side of this valley... |
| Last one. | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 8:19 AM | | Another of the "veiw" kinda weak... |
| Where in Ct is that? | XCTGuy Nov 11, 2002 6:32 AM | | |
| Shenipsit Forest/Soapstone Mountain | Jisch Nov 11, 2002 6:48 AM | | Its in North Central CT. It starts in Ellington/Staffod/Somers area. Great trails. I can get 20 miles of riding in there no problem. Not any really killer hills, but a lot of up/down stuff, and ROCKS everywhere.
Anyone who wants to go for a ride there, I'm ready!

| NEver Ridden | XCTguy Nov 11, 2002 9:10 AM | | I went to UCONN and lived in Southern CT but never rode there. I started riding after my time at UCONN and I if I remeber correctly those cities are closer to Storrs than my home area. |
| Yep - 20 mins to UConn (nm) | Jisch Nov 11, 2002 9:51 AM | | |
| Ah, leaves, rocks, roots, a little moisture... | TNC Nov 10, 2002 8:39 AM | | bust your a$$ in a heartbeat. Sounds like good clean fun. |
| aren't fall rides great! | Brodiegrrl Nov 10, 2002 9:31 AM | | especially when you can't see the slippery rocks and roots under the slippery leaves! |
| aren't fall rides great! | ivanhoe22 Nov 10, 2002 1:30 PM | | Yeah! Great pictures.
I almost busted my ass riding a leaf covered trail this weekend. Took that first turn and the wheels just slid out in the leaves. Just managed to recover before going into a tree. Great fun though! Definitely adds another element to riding. |
| haha fun, isn't it? | GirchyGirchy Nov 10, 2002 2:46 PM | | Did the exact same thing yesterday, slid on the leaves, barely saving it before a tree incident. Love those dumbass mistakes! Still managed to scratch my leg with a pedal though... |
| Algae | Jisch Nov 10, 2002 1:56 PM | | Don't know what was up today, but a lot of the rocks were covered by a thin layer of algae. Luckily it was only the exposed rocks, so I didn't have to contend with the slick rock/wet leaves combo. No brakes, no turning on the slick rocks though. Took a little extra planning.

| Ahh, good ol CT | d2az Nov 11, 2002 9:17 AM | | Wow, that makes me realize how much i miss the new england autumn. I grew up riding in CT and now go to school in MD. The foliage down here this year is actually pretty nice compared to the last few years (thanks to a nice cold, wet couple of weeks). I got out riding this weekend and it was nice, reminded me of home.
Thanks for the pics!
